Steven Furtick Nominated for More Grammy Awards
Steven Furtick and Elevation Worship received two more nominations for the 67th annual Grammy Awards, bringing their total to five nominations and one win in the last five years.
Formed in 2006, Elevation Worship is a worship team from Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC, where notoriously poor bible exegete Furtick serves as a songwriter and producer. Furtick also travels with the band during their ‘Elevation Nights’ tour where they perform such hits as “Graves Into Gardens,” “RATTLE!,” “Do It Again,” “The Blessing.” According to a press release:
“The group is nominated for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for their song “Praise” and Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for their album When Wind Meets Fire.
The nominated song was the breakout single of the year as it spent more than 30 weeks atop Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart, with 76 weeks on the chart thus far. It is the fourth song to top the Hot Christian Songs chart for 30 weeks or longer throughout the chart’s 21-year history
The nominated album, When Wind Meets Fire, topped Billboard’s Top Christian Albums Chart. This was the group’s eighth No. 1 chart debut, the most Top Christian Albums No. 1s of any artist in the genre.
Elevation Church is one of four megachurches responsible for producing and releasing nearly 100% of all the top worship songs released in the last decade, including five songs in the top 25. Their songs have been streamed over 2.14 billion times across all platforms in 2023..
Along with the Grammy nods “Elevation Worship has won eight GMA Dove Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, Group of the Year this year at the KLOVE Fan Awards, and have received nominations for American Music Awards and BET Awards.”
Steven Furtick is the Lead Pastor of Elevation Church. As head of a Southern Baptist-associated, 25,000-member multisite campus with 20 locations, he is known for having the term “narcegesis” (narcissistic exegesis) named after him based on his inability to exegete scripture in a way that doesn’t make every story revolve around him, as well as his penchant to wear outfits that cost more than most mortgages and buddying up to Trinity-Denier T.D Jakes.
Last year he replaced Kenneth Copeland at the always-heretical TBN, filling the role of the Innkeeper Monsieur Thénardier from the musical Les Miserables (TBN being the Inn), with these “Masters of the house” doing whatever is the theological equivalent of “Charge ’em for the lice/Extra for the mice/Two percent for looking in the mirror twice” in his efforts to promote his brand of prosperity preaching.
He also recently said that ‘God is a Molecular Structure’, laughed at the notion of ‘Twerking for the Lord?’, went on a Wild, Wild, Willllldd Rant about Betas and Blessings, went on another Rant About Angels that got Weird Quick and screamed ‘I Am God Almighty!’ in a sermon. All that while saying that God Doesn’t Make You into a New Creation.
