Pastor Gets Shot On Stage With Paintball Gun While Spinning Upside Down

Church by the Glades in Coral Springs is a self-described “hyper-creative church” whose core philosophy has become a mantra for their praxis, with lead pastor David Hughes frequently saying, “We will do anything short of sin to reach people who don’t know Christ.”

Known for their extravagant attempts to keep their members entertained, in the past few years they’ve played a cover of Run D.M.C’s sleazy and sexual song Walk this Way in church, performed Kendrick Lamar’s N95, only cleaned up and sanitized for church audiences, removing the curse words and racial epitaphs for a sermon illustration, put on a Willy Wonka Christmas worship service’ put on crazy ‘Baby Shark’ mashup during service, replete with smoke and canons! and put on an Addams family themed service.

During yesterday’s Sunday message, for Father’s Day, they invited a visitor/ congregant to come on stage and, armed with a paintball gun, shoot worship pastor Lucas Gomes who was spinning upside down, winning a prize based on what target was hit.

Later, the church played a rendition of George Thorogood & The Destroyers’ Bad to the Bone, because why not?

Hughes previously explained his rationale for putting on creative or extravagant church services, using obscene bible twisting to explain:

“The church should have a show- every weekend we should have a show. I’ll tell you why. For my super spirituals right now, don’t log off, because Jesus promised and Matthew’s Gospel that anytime two or three or more would gather in his name, he would SHOW.
