Pope Leo Blesses Giant Ice Block at Bizarre Climate Change Conference
Pope Leo has blessed a giant block of ice at the Raising Hope for Climate Justice conference, in a bizarre act that saw him roundly mocked on the internet.
According to NCR: “the conference is being facilitated by the Laudato Si’ Movement, the global network of Catholic organizations working to live out the encyclical’s message…The three-day conference is set to celebrate and assess a decade of sustainable actions and ecological spirituality spurred by Francis and his encyclical. But it also presents what organizers see as a moment to recommit the church to do more around climate change and other environmental plights facing the planet.
Leo also concemened critics of the climate change movement, saying:
“Some have chosen to deride the increasingly evident signs of climate change, to ridicule those who speak of global warming, and even to blame the poor for the very thing that affects them the most.”
Leo’s actions have not been well-received, however, with noted Roman Catholic Matt Wash writing:
