Wisconsin Right to Life (@WRTL on X), the state’s oldest and largest pro-life organization, is pressuring political candidates to oppose equal protection in their candidate surveys, according to the prominent abortion abolitionist group Foundation to Abolish Abortion (@AbolitionistFAA).
In WRTL’s 2026 state candidate questionnaire, which is offered to all political hopefuls, after reiterating that they don’t support any punishment for women who kill their babies, they tell candidates that “turning women who have abortions into criminals or subjecting them to civil penalties is not the way” and insist that “women are also victims of abortion.”

The candidate survey invokes the infamous Pro-Life establishment national open letter against equal protection, saying that “70 mainstream prolife organizations including @WRTL signed a letter condemning any legislation or law that seeks to place criminal and civil penalties for women who abort.”
The candidates are then directly asked: “Would you oppose all legislation that includes civil or criminal penalties to criminalize or punish a woman who has an abortion?”@WRTL is one of many Pro-Life establishment groups asking candidates to oppose equal protection, often making such opposition a factor in their endorsement decisions.
This question from @WRTL appears on the first and second pages of their eleven-page candidate survey, reflecting the priority at which they place keeping abortion legal for women.
