Prominent Worship Leader Brian Doerksen (‘Refiner’s Fire,’ ‘Come Now Is the Time to Worship’) Dies at 61

Prominent worship artist Brian Doerksen has passed away in his sleep after a battle with stage 4 cancer. He was 61. His family shared the news on Facbeook:

Doerksen was perhaps best known for the songs ‘Come Now Is the Time to Worship’, ‘Refiner’s Fire,’ ‘Faithful One,’ ‘Creation Calls,’ ‘Hope of the Nations,’ and ‘Today (As For Me and My House)’

Doerksen became one of the defining voices of modern worship through his ministry with Vineyard Music before later recording with Integrity Music. Over the years he served as a worship pastor, helped plant The Bridge Church in Abbotsford, and later mentored future worship leaders as director of Prairie Bible Institute’s School of Worship Arts.

His influence has been recognized with a Dove Award, a Juno Award, numerous GMA Canada Covenant Awards, and a Lifetime Achievement Award
