It’s Official: Teenager Carlo Acutis Declared A Saint by Pope Leo

Pope Leo declared Carlo Acutis, an Italian teenager who died in 2006, to be the Church’s first “Millennial Saint” during a widely attended Mass at St. Peter’s Square. Although Acutis passed away twenty years ago due to leukemia, his legacy has grown over the years, driven in large part by the late Pope Francis pushing for his canonization to provide the Church with a young role model. He was sainted along with Pier Giorgio Frassati, a Catholic activist who died more than 100 years ago.
During the open-air service, which was attended by 36 cardinals, 270 bishops, and hundreds of priests, Leo declared:
By the authority of our lord Jesus Christ and of the holy apostles, Peter and Paul, and our own, after due deliberation and frequent prayer for divine assistance…we declare and define Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlos Acutis to be saints, and we enroll them among the saints, decreeing they are to be venerated as such by the whole church.
At present, Acutis body, which was exhumed after 14 years in the ground and reconstructed with wax to conceal his decay, lays in a church in the diocese of Assis, where, dressed in jeans and sneakers, he is subject to pilgrimages and visitations from weepy, “venerating” Roman Catholics who pray to him and ask him for his intercessions in heaven.

Many critics within the Catholic Church have questioned Carlo Acutis’ credentials for sainthood, however, which requires two miracles attributed to the candidate.
Acutis was beatified by Pope Francis in 2020 after a mother in Brazil claimed her son was healed from a malformed pancreas when she prayed to Acutis and touched one of his relics. In 2024, he became eligible for sainthood after a mother, whose daughter suffered a head injury, visited Acutis’ tomb, leading to her daughter’s recovery.

In his concluding remarks, Leo said:
Dear friends, Saints Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis are an invitation to all of us, especially young people, not to squander our lives, but to direct them upwards and make them masterpieces. They encourage us with their words: “Not I, but God,” as Carlo used to say. And Pier Giorgio: “If you have God at the center of all your actions, then you will reach the end.” This is the simple but winning formula of their holiness. It is also the type of witness we are called to follow, in order to enjoy life to the full and meet the Lord in the feast of heaven.

Jesus is the ONLY intercessor between God and man – 1 Tim. 2:5
Please, Lord – wake these people up and give them understanding from your Holy Bible so that they won’t hear “depart from Me” on the Last day.
