Tony Evans a No-Show at Gateway Church+ Max Lucado Takes His Place

Days after two speakers canceled their scheduled preaching slots at Gateway Church following revelations that Robert Morris molested a 12-year-old girl decades ago and kept it from the church, another guest speaker did not speak at the event, with Tony Evans being replaced by Max Lucado.

Previously, Televangelist Joyce Meyer and former Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson (also a famous brain surgeon), withdrew from the Let’s Dive In summer series, which brings in prominent guest preachers all throughout the summer.

Tony Evans, who has temporarily stepped down from his megachurch over an unnamed sin, was scheduled to speak this weekend, but Lucado took his place, preaching a message on “You’ll ge through this” where he shared:

You have welcomed us into your worship service many times over the last decade, yet of all the occasions that we have been here, none are we more honored and grateful than we are today. It is a genuine blessing to be in your presence.

I know the last few weeks have been hard. I know you’re walking an uphill path and you’re feeling the wind in your face, but also know that God is still on the throne and that he loves you with a deep and abiding affection. And Jesus is building his church. He’ll get you through this. Indeed that’s the theme of my message
