Head Of Lutheran Denomination Blames Israel For Hamas Attack

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) is a simmering cauldron of blasphemy and mephistophelean angst, to the point that sitting through an actual church service at one of their pagan temples is a foretaste of the hell that awaits them if they don’t repent. Some of the denomination’s greatest hits include:

Now, they’re suggesting Israel is to blame for the horror that has befallen them. In a statement made by Elizabeth Eaton, Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, she offers:

As Lutherans, we are accustomed to holding tension between two truths. Thus the ELCA denounces the egregious acts of Hamas, acts that have led to unspeakable loss of life and hope. At the same time the ELCA denounces the indiscriminate retaliation of Israel against the Palestinian people, both Christian and Muslim.

First of all, the two are not on par. The purposeful and intentional murder, rape, and kidnapping of men and women, and children is not the same as the ancillary, unintended deaths of citizens killed when attacking military targets. Second, Israel is not retaliating in an “indiscriminate way” but rather is going above and beyond to take care and be selective about which targets are hit, in order to avoid civilian casualties.

She continues:

For the past week we have borne witness to the horrors of the escalating crisis between Israel and Hamas. We also watch a growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza as Israel blocks food, water, fuel and medical supplies and as airstrikes continue to cause unbearable civilian casualties ahead of a just-announced ground assault.

Notice that only Israel’s response is itemized and listed in detail, whereas the mass torture, beheadings, settings on fire, mass rapes, and murder from Hamas is not. Eaton concludes by expressly laying the blame of the deaths of 1400 Israel civilians at Israel’s own feet, citing their crimes as the “root cause” of their destruction.

We must also call a thing a thing. The power exerted against all Palestinian people — through the occupatiom, the expansion of settlements and the escalating violence — must be called out as a root cause of what we are witnessing.

The ELCA has a long history of hating on Israel, passing resolutions in 2016, for example, that called for the US Government to end all aid and funding to Israel, along with adopting BDS tactics (boycotts, divestment, sanctions.)

In 2013, Eaton appeared on a pro-Hezbollah TV station and told the host “We’ve urged our government not to engage in grants to the state of Israel while the settlements are going on.” and “we also engage in selective purchasing. So we not only try to trade with the Palestinian Authority, but we do not purchase products made in the illegal Israeli settlements.”
