Controversial Street Preacher Ruben Israel Dead at 62

Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gas, Day, French Quarter

Ruben Israel, the controversial Los Angeles street preacher known for his confrontational style, impossible-to-miss signs, and inflammatory rhetoric, has passed away, according to a Facebook message from his family. He was 62 and his cause of death has not been released.

Ruben founded the organization Bible Believers in the 1980’s, ran the website Official Steet Preachers, and was involved in Street & Open Air Preachers of America.

Training and developing dozens of chapters of like-minded street preachers, in many ways, he pioneered confrontational evangelism, which frequently sought to be offensive for the sake of offense.

From carrying a real pig’s head at the Dearborn Arab festival in 2012, screaming into a crowd of Muslims, “Muhammed is a child molester who raped little girls!” and asking women if they were suicide bombers, to creating graphic signs against homosexuality that involved copious references to ‘butt sex,’ AIDS, and rectums, his efforts to call people to repent and trust in the Lord frequently involved astonishing provocations, crass and racist insults, and tactics designed to enrage rather than engage.

In his wake, he created a generation of street preachers frequently unable to differentiate between being persecuted for the Lord’s sake and persecuted because they are being jerks.

    1. My most recent pay test was for a 12-hour-per-week internet job for 9,500 dollars. For months, my sister’s friend has been making an average of 15,000, and she puts in about 20 hours every week. As soon as I gave it a try, I was shocked at how simple it was

    2. I perused this website, and I would agree with some of the things they say about some doctrines, they really strike me as hyper-sectarians. I would be careful reading this group. They sound as shaky as Israel.

  1. “Controversial”? Try false flag. Ever look at who was bankrolling him? His job was to be a walking stereotype for the bigotry his master was trying to incite against Christians.

    1. I never heard of the guy and I live just south of LA county. Who was bankrolling him and who was his “master”?

  2. I’m using an online business opportunity I heard about and I’ve made such great money. It’s really user friendly and I’m just so happy that I found out about it. Here’s what I do.

  3. Given that I was laid off in a terrible financial circumstance a year ago, Google’s weekly benefit of 6850 USD in local currency is astounding. “W Many Thanks Google Reliable for Gifting those Rules and Soon It’s My Commitment to Pay and Rate It With Everyone.. right now I Started..” http://www.richpaay.blogspot.com

  4. I knew him personally since the 18th of March 1989, over a third of a century. He was self employed as a painter. A lot of people judge him without knowing/understanding his reasons/motives for doing/saying some of the controversial things. I did not agree with a lot of his doctrine/theology. His doctrine/theology basically represented “Wesley” while my doctrine/theology basically represents “Whitefield”. I made an operational decision not to part ways with him as I considered my doctrinal/theological differences with him were not “salvation pending” but instead looked beyond that to engage in selected outreaches with him mainly but not exclusively in southern California. Due to my long acquaintance with Ruben I am privy to information about him that a lot of his critics are not. Since the Lord saw fit to take Ruben home I invite his critics, particularly those who did not know him personally to please kindly put up or shut up especially since he is no longer with us.
