Last week Pastor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, told congregants that he had some important news to announce the following week, June 26th, teasing them by suggesting “You will want to be here next Sunday. Trust me.”
Yesterday morning, he took to the pulpit and offered a recap of the legal and social battles between the Church and the Los Angeles County Health officials, which had been suing them and seeking to have them shut down for over a year, then explained:
We have been in this state of litigation with the county for all the time since August 12 [of 2020]. They set a date for a hearing to bring some resolution to this, but every time they postponed it, so the latest was to be this past week, June 23 , we were to hear what the final adjudication was going to be and they postponed it again. So I was prepared to tell you about the ending of all of this, but they have postponed it another time.
This is the seventh time that it has been postponed.
Which is fine. Everything’s in the Lord’s hands and we’re here, whatever the county says or doesn’t say, here we are, and grateful to the Lord to be here. But we were told that we thought we would have a resolution this morning, and now it’s going to be a few more weeks, which isn’t going to change anything.
I just want you to know that all of these are very, very good signs, and this is going in the direction we would want it to go and we’re very thankful for that.
But having said that, I can’t give you a final result to this because they’ve pushed it off one more time, but all the discussion between our attorneys and the officials are very positive for us, so this is going in a very good direction.
There we have it. MacArthur was going to announce that everything with the county was going to be resolved, likely in their favor, but further postponements have pushed it back several weeks, with BTWN’s host Tim Hurd, who has been following the events closely, thinking that the announcement will come in early August after MacArthur gets back from his yearly month off in July.
