Graphic Novel of Bible Book ‘Song of Songs’ to Be Released – ‘Romantic & Sensual Without Being Explicit’
Word for Word Bible Comics( WFWC) has announced that their Kickstarter for a “historical, unabridged & faithful presentation of the poetic book of Solomon” has hit its goal only four days after launching, and that they will be creating a graphic novel of the bible book that will be “romantic & sensual without being explicit.”
WFWC has previously brought other projects to market, releasing graphic novels of other bible books, usually with a teen or adult content advisory. Some of their successful books have included the gospels, Jonah, Ruth, Judges, and others.
Naturally, with an unabridged, word-for-word, depiction of a text that many have taken to uncomfortable extremes to talk about, a natural question arises:
HOW SEXUAL IS IT?
The creator explains.
The pictorial representation of the text is as faithful as possible, and while themes of sexual desire and marital intimacy are central to this book’s message, these topics are presented in the context of a song at a wedding. In the text, there is occasional innuendo and many times the images will reflect the same sort of thing with a visual innuendo.
Early endorsers of the book note “his book was very sensuous without it being too sexualized. This comic has depicted the major scenes well with images that help to bring the metaphors to life and show what they mean without being too explicit.” and “(it) has visually captured the SoS’s celebration of sexual love within marriage and of the beauty of the human body without putting in anything lurid or gratuitous. “

The book is expected to be released later this year.
The Song of Soloman is sensual and romantic. As long as this doesn’t mock or sexualize, who cares?
And I thought the Song was about Christ and His church, but hey, what do I know. This will probably be terrible, as most things “Evangelical” wind up being terrible these days.
The artwork alone does not recommend it
