Tim Walz’s Lutheran Church is a Trainwreck of Heresy and Blasphemy
Pilgrim Lutheran Church in St Paul, MN, is a trainwreck of a congregation. Led by impastor Jen Rome, they are an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) congregation that exemplifies all the most heretical parts of the denomination. Notably, a recent article by RNS identified this as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s (who is Kamala Harris’ radical Vice President pick) denomination and parish.
Some of the ELCA’s greatest hits include:
ELCA Praises and Platforms Lutheran Pastrix Who Attended Pride Parade in the Nude
ELCA Publishes Book For Teens Saying Porn Can Be ‘silly fun’ and ‘safe way to explore your sexuality’
ELCA Releases Hilariously Woke DEI Recommendations For their Denomination
ELCA Publishes Book Encouraging ‘Queer Children’ to Ignore and ‘Limit Contact’ with Non-Affirming Parents
ELCA Church Hosts ‘Queer Nativity Play’, Featuring Mary and Joseph As Two Catfighting Lesbians
ELCA Considers Expelling all Conservative, Anti-LGBTQ Pastors from their Midst
Leader of ELCA Goes Off On Jesus in Sermon, Calling Him ‘Mean’, Troubling, and Even a Little Racist
ELCA Church Recites Blasphemous ‘Sparkle Creed’ + ‘I believe in the non-binary God whose pronouns are plural’
The church, which checks off all the usual pro-choice/ pro-LGBTQ boxes, uses the “Inclusive Bible” for all scripture readings and say they are committed to:
- Antiracism work, de-centering whiteness, and making reparations for race violence
- LGBTQIA+ affirmation and making a safe space for people of all genders and orientations
- Gender equity and ensuring that the voices of women and nonbinary/gender non-conforming individuals are amplified
- Accessible spaces that all bodies can navigate with ease
- A planet we can thrive in for many generations to come, including supporting efforts to uplift and protect indigenous care of the land
During a June 12 sermon, David Weiss preached a message for Trinity Sunday, which is supposed to be dedicated to expounding on this glorious doctrine. Instead, however, Weiss shared that “I’m not much interested in reflecting on the sacred mystery of the godhead: three persons in one divinity … whatever that means” in light of being “transfixed (all over again) by the spectacle of January 6, the fragility of our democracy, and the rising threat of authoritarian white “Christian” nationalism that seems hellbent on making America “great” again by erasing voting rights, reproductive rights, and pursuing a xenophobic assault manner of civil rights.”
That was just the opener. Through the rest we got snippets like this:
“While the early church and most of the Christian tradition rushed to reserve divinity-in-humanity exclusively for Jesus, there is zero biblical evidence that Jesus felt the same way. If anything, there are plenty of hints to the contrary: that Jesus is counting on us to become vessels of divine energy, bearers of the Moreness of God into this world. “
and
“Our life as members of a holy community will be shaped deeply—and in stark contrast to the world as it is today—by radical sharing. The culture of individualism and nationalism, personal status and private ownership, are antithetical to the Divine Life longing to be in us.”
and
“Affirming the outpouring Moreness of God means acknowledging a God-drenched kinship with all that is—alluded to in Proverbs 8. And it means renouncing the aspirations in Psalm 8 to rule over creation or imagine that God has set it beneath our feet. What may have been innocent words of praise 3000 years ago, became an ecocidal delusion in the last centuries and decades.”
Heretical trash, but wholly expected for this denomination.
I cannot for the life of me understand why Julie Roys’ website is running softball articles on this guy and his leftist ilk, all whilst attacking anyone to the right of David French as a threat to the country. It’s almost as if there is a well-planned agenda going on here.

Synagogue of Satan masquerading as a Christian church.
True, the Satanist who wrote this couldn’t even put their name on the byline.
oh wow I didn’t even pick up on the random sideswipe antisemitism on the first pass
Yeah. And thanks to garbage theologians like the ones you’ll find here, the church named in the article is now in daily receipt of threats of violence and murder.
It’s really telling when someone’s theology is all about how bad everyone else is. I left the WELS because of that garbage. If church is about our relationship with God in community, tearing down others would seem to be a bad way to go about improving our own relationship with God.
But instead, we have these “brave” folk at Protestia calling out everything they see as heresy while tolerating anti-Semitic hatred down here in the comments.
Jesus was a Jew, people. Anti-Semitism is hatred of the Christ who was born a Jew, born of Jews, and loved Jews. There is not an Apostle who wasn’t Jewish. There is not a Christianity without Jews.
ELCA – Everything Luther Cautioned Against. It’s incredibly frustrating to Confessional Lutherans that this heretical body continues to use the name we are also associated with.
Luther? The guy who wrote a 65,000-word treatise called “On the Jews and their Lies,” which called for the burning of Jewish schools, homes, and synagogues, and the murder of all Jews? If that’s a name you’re proud to be associated with, then you may be the problem.
Even if you don’t post the author, god knows who wrote this.
piss off
wow finally a church that *doesn’t* suck.
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or athirst, and gave thee drink? And when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, even these least, ye did it unto me.
Matthew 25:37-40
Sounds like Walz church read the book.
It’s very rare to see an actual Christian church, so it’s no wonder that you Trumpian fascists are fully triggered.
I was already sold on Walz. You po-faced misery-maker weirdos needn’t trouble yourselves to go making him look even better.
Glad to see the comments here standing up for the actual teachings of Jesus as opposed to the fear mongering, judgmental positions of this publication. The true strength of a leader is who you lift up, not who you tear down. I’m sure the good people of St. Paul stand with their governor and he stands with and for them and will stand up for all of us when he is the Vice President. Glad to know where he worships and will send them a donation after reading this.
