Gateway Church Executive Pastor Fired Over Undisclosed ‘Moral Failure’

The revelation that Gateway Church pastor Robert Morris sexually abused 12-year-old Cindy Clemishire decades ago was the turn that opened the floodgates, cracking open the congregational ribcage to expose the dark hearts of self-preservation and deviancy animating the corpse of the largest megachurch in America.

In the unlisted video post to YouTube emailed to congregants, Elder Tra Willbanks shared with the church body that Executive Pastor Kemtal Glasgow, who provided oversight and leadership to most of the church’s 560 employees, including pastors, was terminated for unspecified moral reasons.

“We were informed last week of a moral issue which we believe as elders disqualifies him from the role he had at Gateway. We love his family. We love his wife and his kids, and we want to come alongside them during this difficult time and help them find restoration and healing that they need to find as a family.”

Though the church is mum on specifics, sources have alleged to us that the moral failings were sexual in nature.

Glasgow has been married for 21 years and has three children aged 14 to 9.

The termination follows two high-profile exits, including Robert Morris’s son James, who was set to take over the church from his father, and Steve Dulin, the founding elder and executive pastor leading the Gateway Kingdom Business Leaders ministry, who went on leave due to an investigation into abuse allegations against Morris, but then parted ways with the church over unspecified reasons. Amy Smith revealed he was fired.

Gateway Church Changes Name in Light of Robert Morris Scandal

Gateway Church’s Houston branch has decided to change its name following the recent child sex abuse scandal by founding pastor Robert Morris at their main Southlake campus, distancing itself from the stain of his deviltry.

Gateway Church in Houston was planted in 2020 and led by Elaine and Ethan Fisher, Robert Morris’s daughter and son-in-law. They shared on their Facebook page that they’re now becoming “Newlands Church, severing ties with their old namesake,” and that the next chapter is about obedience and stepping out in faith to be who God has called us to be.

Insisting that the name change has been in the works for the last year and a half, an accompanying video offers that their initial intention for the church was ” full of the legacy and heritage of those who have gone before us” but that “God has been speaking to us about creating a distinct, localized identity.”

Gateway Church Cancels Major Conference Amid Robert Morris Scandal

In a show of continuing and cascading fallout from the revelation that their pastor Robert Morris molested a 12-year-old girl decades ago, Gateway Church has announced that they’ve decided to cancel their upcoming 2024 conference, which featured James Morris, Lisa Bevere, Len Ulmer, Tommy Barnett, Jentezen Franklin, and Phil Wickham.

In a letter posted to their social media, Gateway shares that “after much prayer and consideration, we have decided not to hold Gateway Conference in 2024” because “our congregation and staff are in the midst of navigating Robert Morris’ resignation and the emotions surrounding it.” They further reveal:

We are deeply sorry for the pain this situation caused the survivor, other survivors of abuse, and the Church at large. As we seek to navigate this season in a healthy way and in a manner that promotes healing for everyone affected, we believe it best to not hold Gateway Conference this year. We are sincerely sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment this causes.

Everyone who registered will be issued a full refund.

In a recent interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, former Gateway Youth Pastor Kam Hunt, who presently attends Gateway church, estimated that attendance is down by 50%. Just a few months ago, the church boasted weekly 100,000 guests and visitors, but has been hemorrhaging since the news of the molestation.

Gateway Church Evacuated After Bomb Threat Called In

The Southlake campus of Robert Morris’ megachurch was evacuated earlier this week after an anonymous called in and claimed there was a bomb at the embattled church.

According to police reports obtained by TRR, the church, which is facing a mountain of backlash and scrutiny after news broke that their famous pastor, Robert Morris, sexually molested a 12-year girl nearly 35 years ago and subsequently covered it up, received a phone call on Monday saying there was a bomb at the church and that it would blow up in 30 minutes.

Police, fire, and medical teams arrived on site and officers quickly swept the building, clearing the location in under two hours before deeming it safe to return.

Police say that the incoming number came from a phone associated with a 79-year-old woman who has dementia, and which reportedly hasn’t been used in over 20 years, suggesting her number was being misused by malicious parties in some way.

The report states:

Officers cleared the building and were able to determine that the bomb threat call
came in from (1-817 (redacted)

This phone number is an after hours only number and the voicemail went call center who notified dispatch. I spoke with the safety and security director for Gateway church and Kemtal Glasglow who is one of the executive directors. They were able to conference me in with their IT department who advised the 817-(redacted) number is a receiving Zoom number only and cannot make outgoing calls.

TLOing the phone number shows that number is associated with an (name redacted) out of Whicita Falls. I was able to make contact with her and her grandson, who both advised that 5899 number is a very old number for (name redacted) and hasn’t been used by her in over 20 years.

(name redacted) stated that we can call him in the future if there are any other issues
at (name redacted) has Dementia. 911 call added to patrol photos.
