Fig trees can skip years bearing fruit due to lack of fertilizer. I’ve yet to find a fig tree that simply won’t bear fruit. Usually they just need to be fertilized more for a few years and then they start. But these are American fig varieties not Mediterranean, so perhaps they’re different.
In any case, the liberal theologian in me thinks that probably this is a parable that got physicalized. Its the parable that Israel is a fig tree and God will dung it and give it another year and if it doesn’t bear fruit he will cut it down. Its in Isaiah. Someone decided to physicalize it into Jesus literally cursing a fig tree. Or Jesus did that. But saying that the tree “Was actually bearing fruit” is false. And the reason a gay homo bundle of sticks would say that is he is trying to defend the Christ hating LGBTQP+ spreading Jews and saying that their pudding packing is “bearing fruit.”
The fig tree that was cursed was Israel, and when Christ cursed it, it shrivelled up, by its complete and final utter and total destruction in 70 AD.
I love all these ignoramuses that rail against the very thing (capitalism) that has made them wealthy.
