Angel Studios, the Mormon-owned streaming platform and film distributor best known for producing The Chosen, Sound of Freedom, King of Kings and Young Washington, and which has ammased more than three million subscribers, has a new “Angel Promise” that will ban any new film or TV projects from containing profanity, nudity, and sex scenes, according to a press release published by Business Wire.
Dubbed ‘The Angel Promise,’ it contains three separate promises:

According to their website, “The Angel Guild is a body of thousands of Angel investors and members who review Torches (concept footage or fully completed films including movies, TV series, and documentaries). Guild members help determine if Angel Studios takes on a project by watching and voting on these Torches. If a Torch’s voting results achieve the Guild’s minimum eligibility requirements, it enters into a due diligence process to determine if Angel Studios is the right fit for the project.”
There are guarantees for sex and language:

And better parental controls.

They also note if they ever break these promises, they can all be fired.
In June 2026, we (Neal and Jeff- Angel founders and owners) irrevocably transferred 10,146,000 shares of Class B stock (with 10 votes per share and currently worth approximately $39.3 million) to the Angel Mission Trust. These shares are locked up perpetually for the purpose of governing Angel.
If in the future Angel is breaking its promise, the Trust can cast more than 100 million votes to fire the board and executives and replace them with leadership who will keep the Angel Promise. Our hope is that this Trust can help Angel be the longest lasting entertainment company for families.
While Angel Studios no longer distributes ‘The Chosen,’ they have have generated several successes at the box office. Previous theatrical releases include His Only Son ($13.8 million on a $250,000 budget),Solo Mio ($26 million on a $4 million budget), and their mega-hit Sound of Freedom ($250 million on a $14.5 million budget).
However, many of their films did not fare as well. These include Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot ($12 million on an $8.5 million budget), the 2024 film Cabrini ($20 million on a $50 million budget), Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Spy, Assassin ($12 million on a $25 million budget), and most recently Animal Farm ($6.2 million on a $35 million budget).
