United Methodist Church Selling ‘Queer Tarot Cards’ In Church Bookstore

Rev. Debra McKnight is the senior ‘pastor’ and founder of Urban Abbey, a United Methodist Church that gathers in a bookstore/coffeeshop they own.

According to her bio, she is “passionate about connecting with the people and helping them grow in their faith” and an “advocate for social justice, women’s rights, and the LGBTQ+ community,” where she seeks to “heal the wounds created by conservative Christianity.”

We last wrote about her after, in one of the most blasphemous sermons we’ve ever heard, she defended Jezebel and Ahab as having a “positive and biblical model of marriage” while also defending the former’s pagan worship of false deity Asherah.

When the Urban Abbey is not preaching demon-dictated sermons, they’re hosting Drag Queen Story Hour or some Woo-Woo event with yoga and crystals.

Taking things to a new level, in a recent Facebook post, the church encouraged folks to swing by and purchase their wares, which include a Pride Flag pin, a primer on being LGBTQ-inclusive, and a pack of Queer Tarot cards.

According to the product page, Queer Tarot is a “bright, bold interpretation of the tarot that offers inspiration, affirmation, and LGBTQ+ representation.”

Created by queer and trans artists Ashley Molesso and Chess, it is a “reimagining of the classic figures in the Major and Minor Arcana showcases a wide range of gender expressions and sexual orientations, and incorporates queer history and iconography throughout.”

The Tarot cards also include a flexibind guidebook that provides “an illustrated introduction to the tarot, with LGBTQ+ descriptions and suggested interpretations for each card, as well as instructions for sample readings and a brief history of tarot.”

Very on-brand, and right up the UMC’s alley.
