Rebecca Todd Peters is a professor, author, and Presbyterian Church (USA) ‘pastor.’ She has been active denominationally and ecumenically for over twenty-five years and represents the PCUSA as a member of the Faith and Order Standing Commission of the World Council of Churches.
A lover of all things baby-killing, she also serves on the Clergy Advocacy Board of Planned Parenthood and was recently elected Vice President of the Society of Christian Ethics. We’ve covered her a few times in our stories:

Wearing a pink stole with the Planned Parenthood logo on it, she recently spoke at the Temple Beth El where she explained with great horror and consternation the success that abortion abolitionists like Abolitionist Rising and The Foundation to Abolish Abortion were having in influencing the culture and legislation, saying things like:
So a week ago, last Friday, a bill was introduced in Iowa that would not only abolish and criminalize abortion, but would classify abortion as a homicide and thus open the door for life imprisonment for abortion providers and for women having abortions. This bill is an example of a growing abortion abolition movement that has been introducing similar legislation across the country for the last 10 years.
Moving from a single bill in Oklahoma in 2016 to similar bills being introduced in 13 states in 2025, some of which also include seeking the death penalty.

The abortion abolition folks represent the most extreme right-wing camp of white Christian nationalism. They are zealous and ideologically convicted by an interpretation of their religious tradition that emboldens them with the belief that they are charged with a divine mission to eliminate abortion in the country. The abortion abolition movement also highlights the escalating strategy of codifying fetal personhood into state laws as the next critical step in the Christian anti-abortion agenda in the country.
