Abolitionist Senator Dusty Deevers Loses Senate Seat in OK Primary

Christian pastor and Oklahoma State Senator Dusty Deevers has lost his seat after placing third in the Republican primary for Senate District 32. He finished behind Jean Hausheer and Curtis Erwin, who will advance to a runoff.

Deevers, who pastors Grace Reformed Baptist Church in Elgin, was elected to the State Senate in a 2023 special election. He was known for his staunch opposition to abortion, along with filing multiple bills aimed at strengthening families and developing true justice. (He proposed SB1825, a bill establishing that the penalty for a willful false accusation is the same as the penalty for the crime you falsely accused someone of.)

He sought a repeal of no-fault divorce, increased penalties for child pornography, and, in fact, the wholesale prohibition of all pornography statewide.

Some of his greatest legislative hits can be seen here.

Colton Bennett on X notes that while it is a mighty blow, other abolitionists were successful in their runs and will help carry the torch onward.
