Armenia Set To Unveil ‘World’s Largest Jesus Statue’

The world’s largest Jesus statue is set to be unveiled next year in Armenia.

Former politician Gagik Tsarukyan is backing the project, which will feature a 108-foot-tall statue of Jesus atop a 144-foot pedestal.

Artistic rendition below:

If the height remains according to plans, this would make the combined monument more than 125 feet taller than the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.

However, it would not be taller than the “Jesus Christ the Saviour” statue in Sumatra, Indonesia, which stands at 200 feet tall.

And none of these would be taller than the Mother of All Asia statue of the Virgin Mary, which sits at 322 feet tall.

While supporters point to the statue as a major tourism draw, its construction has been criticized by the Armenian Apostolic Church, which does not include these sorts of statues in its religious traditions.
