‘The Chosen’ Takes #3 AND #7 Spots at the Box Office

‘The Chosen’ season five continues to make bank at the box office, releasing several more episodes in theaters over the weekend. This strategy continues to pay off big for Dallas Jenkins and Amazon MGM theaters, which is showcasing the season in theaters before releasing it for free on streaming services this summer.

Last weekend, ‘The Chosen’ Episodes 1 and 2 were released in theaters, earning over $11M on their opening weekend and $19M since their release. This weekend saw episodes 3-5 released, earning another $6.7M as the show took the #3 and #7 spot, bringing the first five episodes over $24M.

Episodes 6-8 will be released in theaters this coming weekend, where they expect to gross in excess of $10M.

While many fans continue to rave about the show, the newest season is not without its controversies, including the decision by director Dallas Jenkins to include a plot point where the Apostle John becomes ritually unclean after ‘spilling his seed.’ and having a wet dream.
