Vatican Watch: Pope Francis Makes First Public Appearance in 5 Weeks, Discharged From Hospital

Five weeks after being admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital with pneumonia in both lungs, Pope Francis. 88, has been discharged, weakly waving to a gathered crowd and giving them a thumbs up before being whisked away. According to the Vatican News

He said just a few words from a small balcony just above the crowds gathered below. With effort, his hands resting on his knees, he then lifted them to bless the crowds, followed by waving and smiling to those below who were shouting, “Francesco, Francesco!”, “We love you!”, “We’re here for you!”

“Thank you to everyone!” the Pope said with a faint voice. A greeting had been planned, but the Pope wished to greet them more with his presence then with his voice still affected by the respiratory therapies he has been undergoing.

Before heading home, however, Francis made a brief stop at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, where he placed flowers on the icon of Mary Salus Populi Romani “as a sign of his gratitude for her care and protection.”

He is expected to spend the next two months resting with minimal exertion and activities.

While there is no such thing as a ‘good’ pope, Francis has been particularly noxious and vexatious, doing things like affirming the faith of Joe Biden and saying he would never refuse him communion because the President’s love for abortion is between him and God, endorsing civil unions for gay couples, appointing multiple pro-choice people to his pro-life organization, saying that he’s open to priests blessing homosexual relationships, so long as there is no suggestion that they’re blessing gay marriages, appointing a LGBTQ-compromised priest to become ‘Preacher of the Papal Household,’ and continuing to promote and endorse notorious LGBTQ-affirming priest James Martin.
