Vatican Watch: Pope Francis Is On The Mend, Is Off Mechanical Ventilation
Pope Francis’ “clinical condition” is “confirmed to be approved, according to an update provided by the Vatican Press Office, which reveals the status of the beleaguered pontiff presently recovering in Rome’s Gemelli Hospital.
Francis, 88, has been hospitalized since February 14 with pneumonia in both lungs and, at one point, was feared he was close to death. Now, he is looking like he’s in the clear and getting better, with the update explaining:
The Holy Father’s clinical condition is confirmed to be improving. The Holy Father has suspended non-invasive mechanical ventilation and also has less need of high-flow oxygen therapy. Motor and respiratory physiotherapy is continuing to make progress.
This morning, on the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, the Holy Father concelebrated Mass.”
According to Vatican News: “The Pope’s doctors have said that his lung infections are under control, although not eliminated. The values of his clinical analyses are in the normal range, and the Pope continues to be fever-free. He spent his day receiving treatment, praying, and doing some work.”
Two years ago, Francis was hospitalized after undergoing a three-hour surgery to repair a hernia in his abdomen. At that time, he revealed that he has already drafted and signed a letter of resignation from his position as the head of the Roman Catholic church in case health issues prevent him from carrying on his duties If the decrepit and corrupt pope does resign, he would be only the second pope in over 600 years, following the example of his predecessor, Benedict XVI, in 2013, and then Gregory XII, in 1415.
Despite his hospitalization and discomfort, Francis, the fifth oldest pope in history, remains in “good spirits,” according to the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni.
