Charlie Dates Demands White Evangelical Pastors Repent of Seeing God’s Hand in Trump Win, Sign of His Favor

Charlie Dates is the pastor of Salem Baptist Church of Chicago, a former ERLC and TGC contributor, and a former SBC Executive Committee panel member. He left the Southern Baptist Convention a couple of years ago on account of their failure to embrace Critical Race Theory ,and he al claimed that current worship songs are enslaver/ captor songs.

He attacked other Black Christians as sell-outs for saying things like “I’m Christian before I’m Black,” said the SBC “don’t need Black Faces with White Theology/voices/ideas leading the convention,” and invited Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot to preach at his church, who came and attended with her lesbian ‘wife.’

This was when he wasn’t describing the SBC as a bunch of racists that will never change, calling some black SBC pastors mere “tokens” or “assimilators,” and calling SBC seminaries “vestiges of racial animus.

We recently wrote about him after he blasted white folk who have been criticizing the black church for their propensity to overwhelmingly vote for Democratic candidates, saying that they and their black-women-raping relatives should be ashamed for telling them who to vote for:

In a recent video, Dates writes that “You should vote according to your convictions, but to claim the results of this election and the day of this inauguration as the favor of God on America is the sorrowful historical succession of inaccurate and irresponsible theology,” before explaining:

“I want to offer to you tonight a response to some of the messages from, namely, white evangelical—some of them associates of mine—pastors in Texas, Georgia, and in other places who want you to think, theologically, that God somehow intervened and delivered for America salvation in the inauguration of the 47th president.

That’s not Christianity.”

Then, he gets extra spicy:

“Some of these pastors would have you to believe that God somehow now is riding on the backs of their issues and their candidate. But the problem with that is that we get to cast God in the light of our political and cultural interest.

I want to tell you what they didn’t tell you in seminary: Your theological heroes in America who claimed to get the text right were racist, slave-holding, women-whipping, cradle-plundering rapists…

While you wave the banner of victory, that God gave us a great opportunity and now we need to repent, I need to wave that banner back at you and say, ‘Before you call America to repent, you need to repent.’ You need to repent, not just for your theological arrogance, but for your failure to understand Scripture in light of history.”

  1. Woe to those who call good evil;
    Woe to those who call black white;
    Woe to those who call darkness light.
    If your theology ain’t White,
    then it just ain’t right.
