‘We Serve a Miracle-Working God’ + Evangelist Shot in Head While Street Preaching Returns to Church

A month after evangelist Hans Schmidt was moved out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and into a long-term care facility within the hospital, the result of being shot in the head while street preaching, he returned to church with family in tow and even played the drums during the service.

Schmidt, a 26-year-old former military combat medic who is married with two small children, was preaching the gospel in the public square last November when he was fired upon, causing significant bodily injury. He was able to make it back to the church despite having a bullet lodged in his brain, but once in the hospital, his condition rapidly deteriorated until detectives and doctors thought he would not make it.

The culprit was never apprehended.

Despite the initial grim prognostication, Hans has improved greatly in the last two months, though he still faces many challenges physically and cognitively. His wife Zulya recently posted on Instagram:

“We serve a miracle-working God. He walks, he talks, he even plays the drums. God has done an incredible work in Hans’ life and every day he continues to improve. Please continue to pray for a full restoration 💙
