Pro-Life Group Opposes Bill that Would Criminalize Abortion In Missouri

In a tale as old as time, pro-life organizations have again sought to kill a bill that would abolish abortion in the state, joining forces with pro-choice organizations in their opposition to Missouri Senate Bill 356, which is quintessential abortion abolition legislation. The Kansas City Star explains:

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Mike Moon, an Ash Grove Republican, would give fetuses the same rights as human beings, which would allow for criminal charges to be filed against anyone who gets an abortion, helps someone get an abortion, or provides abortion care.

…It does allow for a duress defense and does not allow for criminal charges if the abortion was performed to save the patient’s life or if a doctor accidentally aborts a fetus during a life-saving medical procedure on the pregnant person.

In the video (Ed. Note, right before he spoke, Arizona Pastor Jeff Durbin spoke in support of the bill) Samuel Lee @samuelhlee, who is the head of Campaign Life Missouri, a Roman Catholic deacon, and pro-life ethicist, testifies in opposition to the bill because it would give the babies in the womb the same legal rights and protections as a baby outside the womb, including jail time for those that murder them.

Lee cites the infamous letter signed by 70 pro-life groups, including the ERLC, which has frequently been used as a weapon to kill abortion abolitionist bills, notably in Louisiana before the overturning of Roe, where they insist:

Women are victims of abortion and require our compassion and support as well as ready access to counseling and social services in the days, weeks, months, and years following an abortion.

As national and state pro-life organizations, representing tens of millions of pro-life men, women, and children across the country, let us be clear: We state unequivocally that we do not support any measure seeking to criminalize or punish women and we stand firmly opposed to include such penalties in legislation.

Of course, saying you believe ‘abortion is murder,’ but the mothers should not be punished is like saying you believe ‘sexual assault is a crime’ but the rapists should not be punished. It’s a complete contradiction, is schizophrenic logic, and only serves to send the message that abortion isn’t really murder and that fetuses in the womb aren’t really babies that deserve equal protection under the law.

Despite refusing to protect unborn babies in the womb if it means their murderous mothers may get punished, they still fundraise as if they don’t, with cheap words betrayed by duplicitous actions. Missouri Right to Life also testified the bill, and yet they post garbage like this on their Facebook page:

What a bunch of liars and hypocrites.

  1. Ahh, yes. The “Pro-life” vs “pro-choice” purposefully created endless debate. I love the way both sides have built-in logic flaws that neither side can reconcile. Here’s how it goes:
1: The “pro-life” side is against the murder of babies (YAY! This is correct!). However, the “pro-life” side can’t deny that government interference in personal matters is reprehensible.
2: The “pro-choice” side is against the loss of bodily autonomy (YAY! This is correct!). However, the “pro-choice” side can’t deny that, at the end of the day, you’re murdering a baby.

Now, why would this be seemingly set up this way ON PURPOSE? It’s almost like the debate is DESIGNED TO BE DIVISIVE, ENDLESS, AND WITHOUT SOLUTION.

Let’s read that again. Just to be clear.

It’s almost like the debate is DESIGNED TO BE DIVISIVE, ENDLESS, AND WITHOUT SOLUTION.

Now, here’s a question? Regardless of which “side” of this “artificial debate” you THINK you’re on, the TRUTH IS, you have to have one of 2 APPROVED OPINIONS on the matter. You are ALLOWED to either be pro-choice, or you are ALLOWED to be pro-life. The QUESTION, is WHY CAN’T WE FIND A SOLUTION OUTSIDE THE ENDLESS DEBATE?

    And one more time…

WHY CAN’T WE FIND A SOLUTION OUTSIDE THE ENDLESS DEBATE?

Well, because when the SOLUTION is found, you won’t be divided anymore, but rather will become one in solving the problem rather than arguing about it.

Here’s the opinion NONE OF YOU ARE PERMITTED TO HAVE. Because here is the SOLUTION TO THE ENDLESS DEBATE:
1: We must begin teaching SEXUAL RESPONSIBILITY from a young age. This includes curbing divorce rates. The message of “Not happy? Get out now!” Has GOT TO GO. It teaches a lack of responsibility. The message “Be careful what you do because you HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT FOREVER.” Should purvey.
2: We must return to teaching MORALITY. Traditionally this was done by TEACHING SCRIPTURE. People used to conduct Bible studies as a family. When was the last time any of you conducted a Bible study with your kids?

You will invariably find that, by teaching RESPONSIBILITY and MORALITY, the “pro-life vs pro-choice” endless hamster wheel of debate simply stops turning. Because you have solved the problem before hand, instead of waiting until she’s knocked up and they’re on their 3rd divorce, they make better choices before hand.

But by all means. Do go on with this ENDLESS DEBATE. Those of us comfortably outside your “left vs right” false paradigms of control will happily sit back, big bowls of popcorn and butter, and watch both “sides” endlessly scream at one another. It is, if nothing else, a source of limitless entertainment, if not a microscopic window into how people are controlled with relative ease.

    1. You hit the nail on the head with you comments about the nature of the debate.

However, I think that when it comes to point number one, the problem isn’t that the government is interfering in “personal matters” but rather that they are trying to place restrictions on what women can do.

It is rare to find any kind of anti-abortion campaign that doesn’t try to present women as primary victims or co-victims of abortion. It’s never enough to say “abortion is wrong because it murders babies” and leave it at that, there always has to be a disclaimer or exceptions added to make it socially acceptable.

  2. The idiom ‘the good is the enemy of the best’ should be modified to ‘the good is the enemy of The Truth’

And yes, the love of money is STILL the root of all kinds of evil.
