Pastor at Center of ‘Regrown Toes Miracle’ Announces He’s Stepping Down

Two weeks ago, a woman attending James River Church’s faced scrutiny and worldwide skepticism after releasing a video claiming that three of her toes that were previously amputated were miraculously regrown during a healing service Bill Johnson was speaking at. Lead pastor John Lindell co-signed the miracle, recounting, “As the ladies prayed for Krissy over the next 30 minutes, all three toes grew, and by that point, were longer than her pinky toe. Within an hour, nails began to grow on all the toes.”

With skeptics clamoring for proof, even creating a website https://showmethetoes.com, Lindell later noted he had no interest in talking more about it or providing evidence to doubters, saying, “(I’m) protecting sheep who are vulnerable… that’s my first concern, it’s for her. So, you know, if that bothers you, I’m sorry.” Lindell has frequently claimed that miraculous healings commonly occur at his church, including people with inoperable brain cancer and deafness.

Now, the Lindells, who have been ‘co-pastoring’ the 12,000-member Missouri megachurch for 30 years, say they are embarking on a leadership transition that will see their sons and daughters-in-law become co-lead pastors, a shift they estimate will take four years to complete.

The Lindells did not address whether or not the transition was related to the attention their church had attracted.

Rather, James and Debbie told the church:

One of the surprises in our ministry has been blessing and the joy of getting to work with our kids — David, Brandon and Savannah, When we started this journey, we honestly never imagined that it would be possible. …What has been made clear is that God has prepared them, and is preparing them, for a new season of leadership….When that transition takes place, John and I will continue to serve right here at James River Church on the team in a new role to help move the vision forward,”

When James River was starting, we knew it was with a mandate to reach the next generation. Through the years, your willingness to embrace change has helped keep the church vibrant and its ministry effective.

“=God’s hand is undeniably on James River Church. We are experiencing a historic move of God as more people are coming to Christ than ever before, more people are being baptized than ever before, and we are seeing unprecedented miracles of healing take place and the church, on top of all of that, is making a global impact. We’re excited about what this announcement means for the future of James River.

  1. This is my community and this “week of power” has been so detrimental to the gospel. I am not a fan of the Assembly of God denomination, but I can admit there are good churches among them. The trajectory of this flagship church is frightening.

  2. I lived in Springfield, MO for years. AoG headquarters are there. James River Assembly is the flagship “church” of the AoG. James River had Bill Johnson at their church. The pastor corroborated a false miracle. AoG headquarters did nothing. Apostate church, apostate denomination. Period
