There Were Only 3 Abortions in Texas in September, All to Save The Life Of The Mother
There were 0 legal elective abortions in Texas in September, according to newly released figures by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, showing the impact that the overturning of Roe v Wade had on the state. This follows the trends of a steep decline, with August also only showing theree abortions. Last year, in the same month, there were nearly 2250. In the month before, 5700.
In Texas, which has a population of nearly 30 million people, child murder statistics leading up to the Supreme Court decision ranged from a low of 2514 abortions to a high of 3299 in the six months prior. Yet July saw only 68 and August only 3. According to reporting, none of September’s were elective, but all were considered medically necessary to preserve the mother’s life, which Texas law allows.
While we don’t know the exact nature of these circumstances, one of the most common medical interventions would be in cases of ectopic pregnancy, where the fertilized eggs implant in the fallopian tubes rather than the womb. To save the life of the mother, indirect action is taken, which results in the loss of a pregnancy, but which should not be considered the murder of a baby but rather more akin to a miscarriage.
Some are noting, however that these numbers are deceptive, with abolitionist pastor C.R. Cali cautioning:
