Bishop Of Canterbury Tearfully Urges Church To Bless Same-Sex Unions In Historic Vote
The Church of England’s General Synod is voting this week on a historic proposal that would allow clergy to offer prayers of thanksgiving for same sex-couples and bless same-sex civil marriages in the church, and Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, is all for it.
The scheme by the Anglicans is the result of six years of “study” and “evaluation” by the Church under the Living in Love and Faith (LLF) project, which is the vehicle used by pink-haired and dapper progressives alike to create a new framework for acceptable sexual morality within the church. Under this framework, they would distinguish between same-sex marriages and “holy matrimony” where they could bless, appreciate, and offer prayers of thanksgiving to the former, without officially endorsing it.
The proposal, which was still being debated as of Wednesday night, was championed by Welby, who intervened and interceded for it, at times on the brink of tears. He described the issue as “the most painful thing I’ve ever known” while at the same time denying that this was leading them down a slippery slope:
Each of us will answer to God at the judgment for our decisions today. I am supporting these resources not because I am controlled by culture, but because of scripture, tradition, and reason evidenced in the vast work done over the last six years so ably by so many. I may be wrong, of course, but I cannot duck the issue any more than anyone else here…
“I ask each member of Synod to vote with their spirit-inspired consciences, scripturally and spiritually-guided and not because groups or lobbies or outsiders have told you to”
And later:
I know there is fear of a slippery slope, of what may or may not happen at some point in the future. But let us not give in to the fear of a future which we can neither predict nor control. Fear leads us to do the wrong things – trying to secure the future for God tomorrow, rather than trusting the Holy Spirit today.
According to reports, after Busola Sodeinde, a church commissioner warned that the Anglican church was not on board with this at all, despite the western culture pushing the issue. He suggested that there would be “impending racial injustice, disunity and racial segregation in the church if we were to introduce same-sex blessings” which would spark “exodus of diverse communities from our parish churches.” The Archbishop of Canterbury replied:
“I’m generally torn by this… This isn’t something I take lightly. It’s the most painful thing I’ve ever known…. This isn’t just about listening to the rest of the world. It’s caring. Let’s just be clear on that. It’s about people who’ll die; women who’ll be raped; children who’ll be tortured. So, when we vote, we need to think of that. We must also do right here as part of the church Catholic.
Even before the proposal is ratified, forces within the church are already plotting to do away with this and introduce an even more radical proposal to fully bless and affirm same-sex marriages. The only reason this vote is going forward in its current form is that the radical leftists don’t have the 2/3 votes to be fully affirming.
Yet.
Once you give an inch, the quest for the mile begins, and it is an absolute certainty that this will soon fall.
Welby is a stupid, foolish, puppet of a man for imagining otherwise.
“Each of us will answer to God at the judgment for our decisions today.”
Well, he’s right about that. These sin-affirming rebels will definitely answer to God.
He is just a sniveling, no Biblical beliefs leader just like the rest of them. Took them 6 years to make a decision that can be made in one minute reading the Bible. Yes, Welby, you are wrong. You are “loving” these people while condemning them to hell. Loving them would be to try to get them to turn from their sin, accept Jesus Christ as the Messiah and their Savior and God save their soul for eternity. Which is more loving?
Yet another religious leader forfeits his right to teach the Gospel.
These dry streams insist on throwing out Scripture that condemns their personal favorite sins. No doubt, God Almighty is not amused…
You probably love your mother-in-law.
It’s a race to the bottom. I think the Anglicans are trying hard to gain the infamous “most worldly fake church” award.
