Bible Signed by Trump after St. John’s Church Photo-Op Is Being Sold for $37,500
An online store that deals in rare autographs and memorabilia is selling a bible that was signed by Trump ‘around the time’ of the St. John Church photo-op for nearly $40,000.
‘Moments in Time‘, an online store run by rare book dealer Gary Zimet, features a wide array of letters and obscure specimens, from handwritten letters by Galileo Galilei, to Tupac’s bullet dented crown medallion that he wore when shot in 1994. Many items have no prices, reinforcing the notion that if you have to ask the price, you probably can’t afford it.
In this case, a price was put on it, and it isn’t cheap.
Though one might think the bible in this listing has a different provenance, the owner acknowledges that the signed Bible is not the same one from the infamous image, when Trump faced the ire of many for clearing the streets of protesters to take a picture holding a bible in from of a historic church. Nonetheless, Zimet argues that it still remains a ‘controversial item’ due to being signed days after the uproar, and therefore justifies the price.
Trump himself has commented on items that he has signed going up on Ebay or other online auctions, with USA Today previously reporting that Trump has bantered with businesses leaders before about this sort of thing, saying,
“I sign things, and the next night, I see them on eBay. They’re sold. They’re sold for a lot of money,” Trump said. “‘Sir, could I have you just – would you sign my sneaker?’ ‘Yes.’ Then, two nights later, I see it on eBay, selling for $5,000.”
Turning to South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, Trump said: “I say, ‘What kind of people are these, Lindsey?’ Terrible. Sometimes it’s the senators and the congressmen that do it.”
That book was already priceless before anybody signed it.
