What We Know About Lakewood Church’s Slain ‘Transgender’ Shooter

Police have identified the shooter who opened fire at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood church yesterday, wounding one before being killed by police, as 36-year-old Genesse Moreno.

Moreno has a lengthy criminal history, going back to 2005.

After being revealed, many conservative pundits and Christian commentators have pointed out that not only is she listed as a “white, non-hispanic female” while also being born in El Salvador and looking very much melanated, but that the bulk of her aliases consist of male the name Jeffrey, leading many to speculate she’s transgendered.

According to Newsweek, however, she has consistently used female pronouns and is biologically a woman.

Christopher Hassig, commander of Houston Police Department Homicide Division, identified Moreno as female during the press conference but noted that she has a history of using both male and female aliases.

“She utilized both male and female names, but through all of our investigation through this point, talking with individuals, interview, documents, Houston Police Department reports, she has been identified this entire time as female. She, her,” he said.

Police Chief Troy Finner declined to provide more details about why she was using other aliases, saying that uncovering that information is “part of the process.”

Moreno’s seven-year-old son, who she entered the church with while holding an AR-15 with a sticker with the words ‘Palestine’ on it, was shot in the head during the gunfire and is not expected to live.

While there have been no motives released yet, police say they believe there was a familial dispute between her ex-husband and her ex-husband’s family, some of whom are Jewish.
