SBC author and evangelist Daniel Ritchie is set to be nominated for the position of first vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention after the lead pastor of Fairview Baptist Church, Matt Capps, singled his intent to bring his name forward.
“Daniel Ritchie is among the most faithful, consistent, and passionate witnesses for Christ that Southern Baptists have seen raised up in this generation.” He told the Biblical Recorder, who first shared the news. “I am eager to see our convention recognize this gospel servant and unapologetically champion the vital ministries of vocational evangelists like Daniel by electing him to serve as first vice president.”
Richie, who has written My Affliction for His Glory: Living Out Your Identity in Christ” and “Endure: Building Faith for the Long Run. and now works as a full-time itinerant speaker, previously served as a student pastor at several churches in the NC areas before becoming a full-time speaker in 2017.
Along with frequently preaching, Richie, who is married with two kids, can be seen speaking about the challenges of being born with no arms, including showing videos on his channel of how he fires a gun or drives a vehicle.
He is currently a member of JD Grear’s Summit Church.
In response to the nomimation, Richie wrote on Instgram:
I’m so thankful that my friend @mattcapps will seek to nominate me for the role of 1st Vice President of the Southern Baptist Convention.
With the possibility of being elected I hope to shine a light on personal evangelism in the church and the need to raise up a young generation of ministry leaders – with the Great Commission continuing to be the driving force and focus of Southern Baptists.
