Multiple mainline denominations have come out in opposition to President Trump’s bombing of Caracas and the subsequent capture of Venezuelan de facto president and dictator Nicolás Maduro, decrying it as an illegal act of aggression.
In a joint statement by the United Church of Christ (UCC) and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) (DOC), they decried the incursion as “a troubling pattern of unlawful U.S. military activity” while insisting that “when fundamental rights are threatened, nonviolent, lawful, and consensus-based solutions must take precedence.”
The progressive denominations the U.S. for perpetuating a “colonial narrative” while insisting that the actions represent a “direct contradiction to the principles of international law enshrined in the United Nations Charter.”

Putting forth their “commitments to justice,” they declare:
- We Call for Truth, rejecting simplistic narratives provided by those who benefit from war and extraction of natural resources.
- We Demand Sovereignty, standing in solidarity with the people of Venezuela and Nigeria in their right to govern their countries and manage their own resources without foreign interference or “undercover” attempts at regime changes.
- We Seek Discernment, praying for the Holy Spirit to grant the church the wisdom and courage to see and refute systemic evils and the adversity of Empires.
- We Urge Action, calling on members to raise awareness and increase their advocacy in response to the actions of the US government.
In a similar vein, the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) released a statement saying that it “strongly condemns the illegal act of aggression by the United States of America in Venezuela.”
Members of the WCRC include the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA), A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians, (ECO )Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), (PCUSA) Reformed Church in America, (RCA) and United Church of Christ. (UCC)

The left has never found a godless tyrant they don’t love.
Please … these wolf politicians in sheeps clothing couldn’t be more obvious if they tried. Selling lies and false accusations. The “colonialists” are the invaders at our southern border, the ones flooding this country with drugs, setting up criminal enterprises here, gangs killing US Citizens.
The “colonialists” are also the Maduro’s of central and south America, ruthlessly oppressing the people. Most of them are about as much indigenous as Elizabeth Warren is Cherokee … The man is about whiter than I am, for crying out loud. He’s a Spaniard. And it was Spain that enslaved and pillaged central and south America. Not the USA.
The hypocrisy is so thick you could cut it with a knife. How dare we “illegally” enter another country for a half an hour. As millions of invaders are illegally entering every year, illegally flooding the country with drugs, illegally trafficking women and children, illegally setting up criminal networks and mobster cartels. Now all the sudden they care about the law?
Meanwhile, Biden did the same thing with the president of Honduras, and these politicians in Christian’s clothing didn’t say a word …
Obama violated the War Powers Act, and they didn’t say a word …
They cannot name any law that was broken, because no laws were broken. The President still has until April to notify Congress, within the law.
I’m not a huge Trump fan. I don’t like how he is soft on homosexuality and transvestism, and is complicit in imposing it on the country, because Christians are being extorted to go along with, affirm, and support abominable sin, and are being denied freedom of association. I don’t like a lot of things he’s done. But this is not one of those things. In the old days, the CIA would’ve just killed Maduro. Trump has done the right thing to bring him to justice, to stand trial, being afforded due process. And I’m not going to entertain otherwise from the forked tongued mouths of any politicians posing as Christians, on either the left or the right.
