Canadian Church Has A ‘Culture of Mooning’ After Acclaimed ‘Prophet’ Sends Butt Selfie to Ministry Volunteer?
Art Lucier is a prominent Canadian “prophet” and the pastor of Kelowna Harvest Church in Kelowna, BC, a church group known for their ecstatic charismatic manifestations and 5-fold theology. He is also the Apostolic Overseer of Harvest Ministries International (HMI), an organization he founded with his wife, and is known for his involvement in the Canadian Firewall (a national prayer initiative), leading “Battle for Canada” gatherings, and heading up multiple Prophetic Networks.
For years, Lucier has faced allegations of spiritual abuse, emotional manipulation, and inappropriate physical behavior. Two women filed lawsuits against him and his church, claiming sexual abuse and a cover-up by the church. Following a petition signed by hundreds calling for a third-party investigation, an oversight committee was formed to investigate Lucier, who stepped back from public ministry this past April
In the summer of 2024, ‘Jane Doe,’ a ministry volunteer whose identity has been verified but whose name is being withheld, contacted a member of Lucier’s oversight committee. Doe had worked closely with Lucier for years prior and accused him of grooming her.
In a story published by the Roys Report, “Doe said she often worked closely with Lucier. He would share personal details, such as his grief over the death of his daughter from an earlier relationship than his current marriage….The long conversations were two to three times a day. Using an app where his messages would disappear shortly after he sent them, she said he sent oddly intimate photos. They ranged from pictures of himself in a steamy shower to crude memes of women’s private parts.”

In March 2025, the oversight committee, joined by podcaster Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson and two pastors, held a meeting to address Lucier’s actions and the collected evidence. The Roys Report obtained the image (above) and also a covert recording of the meeting.
During the two-hour-long discussion, which saw Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson brimming with righteous anger and indignation over Lucier’s actions, oversight committee member Wendy Leigh criticized the former for her tone and perceive hostility in her advocacy.
Still, when challenged Leigh ultimately acknowledged concerns about Lucier’s interactions with the ministry volunteer, stating, “I had said that I believe that the amount and the duration of their interactions over the phone (Ed. Note- which includes Lucier complaining about his wife and his dissatisfaction with their marriage) was inappropriate. And what I would consider to be an emotional affair.”
Committee member Marc Brisebois echoed this sentiment, saying, “Do I believe what Wendy just said? Absolutely. I think it was over the top. It shouldn’t have happened. There’s a level of intimacy in that connection that is inappropriate.”
When pressed by Thompson, oversight committee member Casey Borst revealed he confronted Lucier about the volunteer’s accusations, and that Lucier “immediately moved to repentance specifically around his foolishness, not on the concept of an emotional affair…he acknowledged all of the calls. He acknowledged some of the nature of the calls and he acknowledged that he did indeed send pictures that were inappropriate which we’ve discussed here.”
The discussion remained on the topic of one of the inappropriate photos Lucier sent of his naked backside. Pastor Rene McIntyre challenged Casey Borst, who had seen the image, for seemingly downplayed it as Lucier engaging in “15-year-old foolishness, prompting Borst to elaborate”
“Believe it or not, the culture of Kit- so this was shocking for me as well, okay? So the culture of Kitimat church, it’s well known in the Kitimat culture, they had a practice of mooning.
They mooned each other in public, they mooned each other out of the buses. It was both women and men. It was just a common practice. Art at times would send his backside to pastors in the community.
And so I didn’t know that at the time that I got the first call from Doe. And so when she made the claim that Art is sending her naked pictures, my mind automatically went to “oh good god are you serious?!”
And I actually went to Marc at that time I said “man we have a moral failure on our hands, we have a man that is sending naked pictures to another woman.”
So fast forward. When I met with Doe because she said ‘I have a copy of the picture,’ I said ‘well right, wrong, or indifferent. I’d like to see the picture.’ And what I saw in the picture was the same foolish, high school antics that brothers would do. Like in Braveheart, there was a mooning as kind of an insult. It’s red-necked juvenile. It wasn’t sexualized at all. There’s no… The picture that I saw was Art taking a picture in a mirror with his shirt on, and you know how he does his eagle eye? It was his eagle eye.
It was intended to insult Doe as a brother would tease a sister.
Despite all this, Harvest Ministries International announced on Wednesday that they were restoring Lucier back to ministry, writing “After further review, the HMI board, in consultation with the pastoral leadership of Kelowna Harvest Church and several trusted apostolic advisors and leaders…have reached a unanimous decision to invite Art Lucier to resume his leadership role within KMI and Kelowna Harvest Church, effective September 1, 2025.”
