Despite having supermajorities in the House and Senate, professing pro-life Republicans, with the blessing of several prominent pro-life groups, killed a bill yesterday which would have made TN the most anti-abortion state in the country and banned abortion by establishing equal protection of the laws for preborn babies.
The Foundation to Abolish Abortion, (FTAA) which was a strong proponent of the legislation, explains how House Bill 570 was defeated:
After IMMENSE pressure from the Pro-Life establishment and the left-wing media, NONE of the Republican lawmakers on the Tennessee House Population Health Subcommittee had the courage to motion for House Bill 570 to be heard.
Many pro-abortion activists CHEERED in celebration upon the failure of House Bill 570.
What were they cheering?
The legislation recognizes that “innocent human life, created in the image of God, should be equally protected under the laws from fertilization to natural death.” House Bill 570 and Senate Bill 738 require that all preborn babies are “protected with the same criminal and civil laws protecting the lives of born persons by repealing provisions that permit prenatal homicide and assault.”
Under this legislation, murdering anyone would be made illegal for everyone, ensuring that all humans made in the image of God are equally protected in accordance with the Tennessee Constitution, the United States Constitution, and the Law of God.
While it’s bad enough that none of the prominent pro-life groups in the country and state lent their support to the legislation, including Right to Life, Students for Life, and the Southern Baptist ERLC, some groups such as Tennessee Right to Life discouraged pro-life lawmakers from supporting the legislation.
Following the defeat, Kristi Stone Hamrick, the Vice President of Students for Life (whose organization has spent years lobbying against abortion bills across the country), exulted in the loss.

We must attack the murder of the unborn in a multi-pronged fashion. For example …
1) It’s murder, so treat it as murder, carrying the consequences of murder. When God handed His law to Moses, and set due process in place, knowing us, knowing his creation even better than we know ourselves, He warned “your eye shall not pity” those who suffer the consequences for their sins (Deut. 19:21). “You shall purge the evil from your midst” – not might, maybe, if you feel like it – shall.
2) Care for women who are pregnant and in need. This is the ministry of women in the church (1 Tim. 5, etc.). Women such as Beth Moore, for example, need to quit trying to do the work the Lord has set for men, and instead do the work the Lord gave to women.
3) Rape must be a death-penalty offense. Kill the rapist, not the child.
4) Severe consequences for men who are sexually immoral (at least through the church, if secular law will not do it). Deut. 21. Men are always guilty. The Bible essentially considers it to be rape, even if the woman consents. As it was up to Adam to say NO to the woman and to also deny himself, so it is with all men, our responsibility to say NO, and to control ourselves. Honor 1 Cor. 5. If any is sexually immoral, KICK HIM OUT. With leadership, according to God’s created order, also comes responsibility and accountability. And men must not and cannot be allowed to shirk that responsibility. Instead, even supposed “elders” are sexually immoral, and after a little break, they’re right back behind the pulpit. It’s a disgrace.
In any case other than rape, feminists will say “you’re just making us baby-making machines”. No, they make themselves baby-making machines when they go sleeping around. Women also bear responsibility, and do not get a free pass when it comes to sin. They too can say NO.
This is an example of how it must be dealt with. I’m sure I probably haven’t covered all the bases, and more consideration is needed. But as it stands right now, too much feminism has infiltrated both sides.
There are also some very serious cultural things that the church must address. Implicit standards that are not in line with God’s standards. For example, right here at this very website, I myself was berated and belittled for being an older man who is a virgin. Now if I were to allow that to shame and embarrass me, would I not be complicit in the murder of unborn children?
Many say it makes me less of a man. Uh huh, well, I’d remind them which of us has been strong enough to deny himself. They don’t have the strength to last five seconds in my shoes. And it is them who should be ashamed and embarrassed for being juvenile weaklings.
Such mess has no place in the Lord’s church. Justification of wickedness and condemnation of righteousness are both an abomination to the Lord (Prov. 17:15).
It’s all downstream from the church. That’s where the house cleaning needs to take place. Start obeying the Lord, for a much needed change. Start living righteous lives. Quit perverting His grace into a license to sin. He will take care of the rest.
That last comment is not meant to boast, it’s meant to make a point.
First and foremost, get back to the real Gospel of Jesus Christ, and quit “denying the power thereof”
They look at me and say there’s no way any man could be that strong. Well, ordinarily that would be true. By the commandments of men, such as Freud and Darwin, that would be true. Were it not for the Holy Spirit, that would be true. If it were not for the grace of God, and the power of the Holy Spirit, I would not have the strength to deny myself.
That’s the point. I’m no “better” than anyone else, and do not mean to boast as if I were. The point is that we need to get back to the real and true Gospel. The “church” has been overcome with a false gospel that denies the power thereof – even in the charismatic world where for them it’s all about the Holy Spirit, they deny the first and foremost work of the Holy Spirit.
It’s not only a false Gospel, blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (denying His power) is an unforgivable sin (because it denies the Gospel)
There’s more to it than punishment. Fear has to do with punishment. 1 John 4. Where love is perfected, there is no fear. And we live in a world, and amongst a pathetic excuse for a “church”, that not only fears, not only is working in the opposite direction of the perfection of love, but doesn’t even know what love is to begin with. For most, it’s just a word people use to get what they want – because the focus is on what they want, and what makes them feel good, to heck with anybody else or how it affects anybody else – and that’s the opposite of love.
Another standard is that if a man “takes a wife” (with her consent, and one who is not betrothed to another), he has married her (and she has married him). No ifs ands or buts. And if he marries in such a fashion, rather than going through the normal and proper process, then he is never allowed to divorce her for any reason.
That’s the only instance where he wouldn’t be put to death (though in such hasty and unwise action, he might end up with such a miserable life, death would almost be preferable)
God’s way works as a whole. We cannot pick and choose what we’ll obey and what we will not. Sin is not isolated. It causes other sin. It leads to other sin. It compounds. It worsens. It spreads and festers like a disease.
And understand, this is not an excuse for women, or anyone else, to place the blame on somebody or something else. There is no such excuse. It’s the opposite. We need to examine ourselves and consider how we ourselves might have been complicit, take responsibility for it, repent and turn from that sin.
… on that last point, we also must remember anything that is a death penalty offense, by God’s law, is a de-facto divorce. If he goes out and commits a death-penalty offense, adultery for example, then at that point she is essentially a widow. And widows can remarry (you can find the scripture, it’s in there – I need to go get to work)
We’ve got to have a comprehensive understanding, and be able to explain and substantiate it with scripture. Then we can have a comprehensive approach. And then justice for the unborn will be a lot more palatable.
Comprehensively, scripture is not anti-woman, or unfair or unjust to women. And we’ve got to get better at understanding and explaining this. To destroy arguments and tear down strongholds. It’s the sword of God’s word that will defend the little ones, including the unborn. And we need to understand it, explain it, and wield it as the weapon it is. They complain about “clobber passages”. They’re supposed to be clobber passages. That’s why it’s called our sword. That’s why it’s a weapon of our warfare. It’s supposed to convict and correct. That’s what it’s for.
