Disgraced Catholic Apologist ‘Voice of Reason’ Finds Loophole To Defy Bishop’s Orders

Six months after disgraced Catholic apologist Alex Jurado was caught in a scandal involving sending sexually explicit material to multiple women, and one month after he pledged that all his content would be held behind a paywall, it looks like he has found a loophole to regain his visibility.

Following his fall, after a few months of counseling and therapy, Jurado explained that, at the order and counsel of his bishop and spiritual advisors, as a consequence of his actions, he was shuttering his public YouTube channel, Voice of Reason, and putting it behind a paywall. He was to have no public ministry, just Patreon for those who wanted to support him.

“Only Patreon. Nowhere else. Nothing on YouTube, nothing on Instagram, nothing on Tik Tok, nowhere. Only Patreon. So, the only place on the internet, the only place in the world where my content, all of my new content can be accessed is going to be on Patreon.”

“For the foreseeable future, and maybe even permanently, I don’t know, but maybe even permanently, Voice of Reason content will be exclusively on Patreon.”

Even though his Bishop said he couldn’t be on his own public channel, technically, he was never forbidden from going on his friends’ YouTube channels. As a result, in a mood to play accountability games, he joined the channel, Roots of Faith, in order to publicly chat and teach theology.

This earned the ire of other Catholic content creators.

On the same video, hearkening back to his own public exposure, Jurado gets defensive and teaches:

As Christians, we don’t do cancel culture. We do cover culture. He says, never forget that it is a sin for you to uncover the nakedness of your brother.

You are expected to cover your brother’s nakedness and to not put him to shame publicly when you could cover his nakedness. You could deal with with the situation privately and you you respect the honor and the dignity and the good name of your because we’re all entitled to our good name.

Given his trajectory, we expect his channel to be back on Youtube by the end of the year.

What Majorian said about abuse culture is correct. But there is more to it. It points to a deeper problem with RCC beliefs, which is the notion that the very same “clergy” can forgive sins against the Lord and sins against others. The result is that those who are sinned against are deprived of their rightful say, and are often never themselves asked for forgiveness. So the entire wrong theology is basically that of covering up sin, if not encouraging sin through the promise that it will be hidden, in contrast to true repentance. In Matt. 18, Jesus makes it clear that what is bound or loosed by the one who is sinned against, will be bound or loosed in Heaven. And it is important for us to understand that it is only those who are sinned against who have the authority to forgive. Repentance must be directly to those sinned against, not to some clergy in a closet. And forgiveness must come from those sinned against. Only the Lord can forgive sins against himself. Likewise only those sinned against can forgive the sins against them. Nobody else has the right or authority to do so.

When forgiveness is given by those sinned against, then it absolutely should be forgotten, separated as far as the east from the west. But not before, and not if the proper conditions have not been met. In accordance with scripture, what clergy should say is, look here, get out of this confessional and go repent to the ones you sinned against, or you will be rebuked in front of all, and kicked out of this church. That’s the proper Biblical response. Instead they’re told say a few “hail Mary”, a couple of “our Fathers”, donate some more money, then go and continue sinning. And in this manner, many protestant churches and denominations are just about as bad. They often do the same, contrary to scripture, and contrary to the Gospel. And the result is perversion of the grace of God into a license to sin.

He says, “we’re all entitled to our good name”. No, only the Lord is entitled to His good name. That’s the entire point of it all. It’s not about our name. It’s about His name. And His name alone.
