Cory Asbury Apologizes For Teasing Forrest Frank With ‘Parody Vasectomy Song’

Last month, prominent Christian recording artist Forrest Frank broke his back in a skateboarding accident, fracturing his L3 and L4 vertebrae. Remarkably, he revealed he was miraculously healed after just two weeks. While laid up and recovering, he wrote two hit songs about the incident, including one titled “Lemonade,” which topped Apple charts across all genres.
This inspired another prominent worship musician, Cory Asbury, known for the song “Reckless Love,” to parody this incident by writing a song about his recent vasectomy, including mirroring Forrest’s video of lying in bed.
In the video, Asbury said, “We didn’t plan this, but you know, my boy Forrest, he turned lemons into lemonade. And my guy Crowder, he’s standing on the rock with a broken leg, so I figured I still have use of my hands, you know, I can still make music,” before singing:
Snip, snip season, but we stay winning souls. Spread the gospel, not my seed. Grace runs deeper than my genes. Ain’t about my legacy. Kingdom come still guaranteed. Snip, snip, like we cutting a ribbon, ain’t no grand opening, but it’s just the beginning. Let the block close up shop, but my loins stay winning. Fruit of the Spirit, that’s what I’m living. They can take my seed, but they can’t take my song. No swimmers in the pool, but he’s still on the throne. No legacy or biology, but eternity still on top of me. Daddy’s DNA, that’s my only theology.
Seeing thousands of comments on his post, mostly negative, Asbury reached out to Frank, offering an apology, with the two saying in part:

Frank revealed that he wasn’t sure if he wasn’t going to respond, but then after the two reconciled, Asbury gave his blessing for Frank to share his response video, which he did, revealing he was upset about people making fun of him for it, particularly for the pain it caused his wife.
“Um, man, this is super tough. I know y’all are gonna be like ‘Forrest, you’re way too sensitive,’ but this is like, the 10th, or even the 20th post I have seen from another Christian artist making fun of probably the most traumatic moment of my life [and] my wife’s life.”
I’ll just say this: To everybody who’s making these videos, I’m not telling you to stop, but this raises a really interesting conversation with social media, because there’s no seatbelt on social media…
Frank also revealed that he wrote a song, “Misunderstood,” about the incident, inviting Asbury to collaborate with him.
In turn, Asbury deleted his video and apologized, captioning his Instagram post:
“Got a pretty sobering reality check today. @hiforrest, you’re right, there really is no seatbelt on social media. I hopped on a trend without thinking, and I’m genuinely sorry for that. But I’m also hopeful because I know God doesn’t waste moments like these. He can take even our missteps and use them to redirect us, teaching us how to walk in grace and move forward with more wisdom and love.”
Before adding:
“I saw your video. Man, my phone has been absolutely blowing up, brother. Let me take this opportunity to say, I apologize. Man, I never meant to poke fun at anything that you were going through.
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed this lately, but you’ve been kind of blowing up, and your content is almost a template to have fun and create, so everybody’s jumping on it. “I experienced this with ‘Reckless Love.’ People sort of coming out of the woodwork to attach themselves to that, to get some views and some likes from it.
So bro, I apologize for being one of those people.”
Asbury also confirmed that he’d love to collaborate on the song and even shared a potential verse he’d written.
Sometimes words cut so deep, it’s hard to be kind when anger is all you see. The shadow of home can stretch long through the years and covers up the sunshine even when the sky is clear. Cause it’s okay if you feel misunderstood. There’s a man who did as well when they nailed him to wood. And even through all the pain still, he still forgave them. So I can forgive somebody too.
In response, Frank thanked Cory for being “honest and real” and the two seem on their way to being the best of friends.
Worship leader Matthew West, who also poked fun at Frank with his song ‘Honey,’ apologized and deleted it, according to a recent post by Chruch Leaders.
