More than a year after Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Pastor Tony Evans announced that he was stepping away from public ministry on account of unnamed sins he committed, he has returned to the ‘pulpit,’ so to speak, preaching at the FAMiLY Leadership Summit in Des Moines, IA this past July.
According to the promo material, “The FAMiLY Leadership Summit is the Midwest’s premier event for Christians committed to transforming culture through God’s design for the family, church, government, and more,” and “a movement calling Christians to engage culture with courage, clarity, and conviction.”

Along with Evan, the event also featured Steve Deace, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Bob Vander Plaats, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, author Joel Rosenber, and Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America president Marjorie Dannenfelser.
For his message, Evans taught that the Great Commission wasn’t a suggestion; it was a charge: Go. Baptize. Teach.

I’m a little conflicted about this … on the one hand, neither Evans nor OCBF was ever transparent about either the sin or the discipline/restoration process, but apparently it was significant enough for Evans to publicly declare that he was not qualified for public pulpit ministry; but now we’re to believe he has been secretly reconciled in a non-transparent restoration process and is thus free to now publicly declare himself free to return to public pulpit ministry.
It don’t pass the smell test, jack.
On the other hand I don’t recognize all these never-ending family conferences, bible conferences, pastor’s conferences, take back America conferences as being biblically legitimate, I don’t care how many studies and books George Barna writes about how “this generation” doesn’t want to “do church” in a local congregation, but rather wants to create their own Christianity at never ending stadium events, Christian music concerts, home Bible studies, spiritual life conferences, blah-blah-blah.
Scripture reveals God has ordained the local church to be the program for His kingdom between the cross and second advent of Christ, so yeah, if Tony Evans wants to blather on at a biblically irrelevant family life take-back-America conference that has nothing to do with God’s kingdom or Scripture, then go ahead and waste your time.
