Catholic Apologist Alex Jurado (Voice Of Reason) Breaks Silence on Sexting Scandal

Alex Jurado is the founder of Voice of Reason, a popular Roman Catholic apologetic channel with over half a million followers across multiple social media platforms. His CatholicSpeakers bio speaks glowingly of his accomplishments, including being a teenage prodigy in his local community, leading ‘thousands and thousands of people becoming or returning to the Catholic Church’ and debating Dr. James White.

Last month several ‘whistleblowers’ in the Catholic apologist community accused Jurado of grooming a 14-year-old girl and having an inappropriate relationship with her when he was 21. The original complainant swifly retracted part of his claim, amending the girl’s age to 16 and the man’s to 19-20.

The whistleblowers also shared inappropriate, sexually explicit messages he sent to other women.

Jurado denied the grooming allegations but appeared to admit to sending the inappropriate messages. He then vanished from social media until August 17, when he posted a YouTube video titled “Breaking My Silence.” In it, he thanked supporters, explained his absence was due to consulting lawyers and law enforcement regarding accusations of criminal sexual conduct, and stated he is taking legal action against those who labeled him a pedophile to clear his name.

When it came to the other messages, however, Jurado admitted his complicity.

But that wasn’t the only thing that I was accused of. Because last month, along with that false accusation, there was information that had been leaked that was also circulating of private messages between me and a few different women that were that were of a sexual nature….Those messages were not to a minor. These messages were to women, grown adult women of age.

…As the public saw, I on multiple occasions fell into sin and gave in to the desires of my flesh. And I regret to say that that is indeed true. I did fall into the sin of lust. And I really regret to say that in these moments of weakness, I led others into sin. And of course that’s wrong. Of course that is repulsive. And it’s something that I am guilty of.

And I want to take the time to not only apologize to all of these women that I fell into sin with, that I led into sin, but I want to apologize to everyone who saw those messages and were rightly disgusted by them, because they were disgusting.

Apologizing to the women he hurt, his family, friends, elder, parish priest, and bishop for the scandal he caused and the misuse of the platform he was given, inlcuding using He pledged that he will “spend the rest of my life in prayer and in penance to make reparation for all of the damage that I’ve caused because I’ve caused a lot of damage.”

Jurado notes that “during this past month I’ve grown a lot, I’ve learned a lot, I’ve made a lot of really important changes in my life. Changes that I should have made a long time ago.” These changes include going to therapy to he can face “my ugliness, my trauma, things that happened to me when I was a child.”
