Newsboys Dropped By Record Label, Address New Michael Tait Allegations

Christian band The Newsboys revealed this past Sunday that they were recently dropped by their record label, Capitol Christian Music Group, following admitted instances of sexual abuse and hard drug use by former bandmate Michael Tait.
Along with what he has confessed to, Tait has been accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a mind and drugging a woman and watching her get sexually assaulted.
Before their show at the Elevate Music Festival in Scottsdale, Newsboys frontman Adam Agee addressed the elephant in the room to the eager crowd, which repeatedly cheered its support.
We’re just so grateful to be here right now and we wanted to come out before we play and just, just tell you, for just a few minutes, a little bit about what’s been going on if you don’t know.
As a lot of you guys know, our former singer for the last 15 years played his last show with us in November of last year. In January, he came to us and he confessed that he’d been living a double life and he wanted to get help.
Agee revealed that they encouraged Tait to check himself into a rehab facility in Utah. After discussing what to do next and praying for guidance, they decided to move forward with their music and touring because “we felt like we still had a ministry and a mission to do.”
Agee tearfully continues.
We were shocked, because in January, he had mentioned a few things about substance abuse and personal struggles he was having at home when he wasn’t on the road, but never anything of the magnitude of what we read and what was reported, and never anything ever- he never saying anything that could have made us ever think that it could possibly be a danger to others or anything like that.
And So it was so shocking to us, because it’s not the guy that we knew. The guy that we knew, that we’ve been on the road with, he was our bandmate, he was our brother, and he was a friend to our families, to our kids. We’ve got 14 kids between us, and he was a friend to our families.
He would come over to our houses and hang out. We’d go over to his house and take our kids over there and watch the Super Bowl at his house—it was awesome. And it just has been devastating for us. And our families have felt like our names have just been dragged through the mud because of all this, and it’s really, really hurt our kids.
And as a result of all this and the things that have come out that that he’s done, that he’s confessed to, we’ve been dropped from our record label. We’ve had radio stations pull our music and we’ve been cancelled by promoters and venues all over the world.
Agee previously shared in a Facebook post:
We have obviously heard rumors over the years and each time. something came up we tried to find the source and no one would tell us. We asked Tait each time something would come up and he would deny it emphatically.
He called a meeting the first week of January and none of us knew that the next day we would be a 4 piece band instead of a 5 piece. He had always said we would be doing this together until we were 70 years old. That’s the truth and you can believe it or not.
I hate all of this and think it’s incredibly sad. I’m so sorry for the victims and proud of them having the courage to speak up. More coming soon. Love you all.
I posted a video of this on YouTube and several contemporary charismatics came out and defended Tait saying there should be no penalty and that we should not saying anything, only pray for him, so basically these are the types of people who helped him commit these crimes and they covered it up, because they think the Bible teaches “judge not”. This is not Christian, it is devilish and the entire movement is rotten, even DSNTR has an article where Corey Asbury is now speaking of the moral rot within CCM.

Let’s be clear. CCM is not ministry. It is entertainment. That’s fine. It will usually be cleaner than “secular” entertainment. Major media companies hold the purse strings and they produce what they know will sell in a Christian book store. It began in the 70’s as a way to get kids into church. In the 80’s there was the claim that it was evangelistic, but most artists, if they are honest with you, will admit that it is entertainment. in the 2000’s, worship music began to sell so it all shifted to worship, and that has probably been the worst turn yet as it has become hard for a lot of people to draw that line between what is good for entertainment and what is good for worship.
As for whether or not these guys knew anything, only they know for sure. However, the party lifestyle on the road could not have been missed. Most of these bands live on the road just as you might expect a rock band to live. It is a party, and it has been like that since the beginning. You don’t always hear about it, because for years the media surrounding CCM needed the artists to survive. They had to keep secrets. If I can dig deep into obscure lyrics, CCM artists (co-founder of tooth and nail record), Mike Knott, once wrote, “When you drink, no one makes a stink. And when you spill, no one makes a big deal. Someone might slip it into the trash, it all depends on the cash.”
The real problem has been the consumer. We are being force fed this stuff and told it must be part of our faith. It isn’t. Its just entertainment.
