New Animated Film Featuring ‘Furry Jesus’ & His ‘Lover Judas Iscariot’ Doubles Kickstarter Goal

An animated short film about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, from the perspective of the man who betrayed him,” has doubled its fundraising goal on Kickstarter. However, this is no biblical tale created in heaven, but rather storyboarded and scripted in hell.

‘Judas Iscariot’ is a project launched by Charles Kugler, who has worked as a background animator for projects on Adult Swim and the Cartoon Network. The film hit its goal of $30,000 in just a few short days and is at nearly $71,000 at the time of writing, with 22 days left to go.

According to Kugler, the film is: “[an] animated retelling of The New Testament of the Holy Bible, featuring details from the Apocrypha (The “Unofficial” Gospels) with a fresh stylized reinterpretation of the story’s core figures. The goal of this project is to illuminate this text for both a religious and non-religious audience, placing it back into the historical context of Jesus’s role as a political figure during the Roman occupation of Judea.”

One of the main gimmicks seems to be that all the characters are furries (aka fursonas/ anthros.)

The other gimmick seems to be that the film is super gay.

Kugler, who goes by @saintlycharles on social media, says the film “explores mature themes pertaining to love, devotion, and control,” including “What’s the difference between love and worship?”

On his social media he has posted pictures of “Jesus” and “Judas” embracing each other with the caption “biblical yaoi posting.”

In Japanese culture, Yaoi is a term subset of manga/ anime centering around romantic, homosexual relationships between two men.

Put another way, the film is ‘shipping’ furry Jesus and Judas as lovers.

While the trailer for the film has millions of views, many Christian furries we spoke to about this were appalled by the project.

@AzurePolarian, a Pentecostal -Furry/Anthro noted that while “its art style was pleasant and intriguing,” he blasted the intimacy vibes between the two main characters.

[The director] drew interpretations of Jesus and Judas, Holding each other, In intimate ways. Jesus in the Bible, Never did such things, He wasn’t attracted to men, Let alone anyone. He didn’t have a relationship like that at all.

He was there for a few reasons: To perform miracles, To die for our sins on the cross, Thus giving humanity a way to salvation, And forgiveness. The JUDAS ISCARIOT film is a mockery of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Our God

Christian furry @BozoProzo was equally critical, telling us:

They’re trying to retrofit the story of Jesus to suit their own ideology. It’s subversion at its worst. Jesus was not a revolutionary. He was not a socialist, or a communist. He did not come to fix “oppression,” in fact quite the opposite, He promised persecution and mistreatment for following Him, because His teachings ran counter to everything humans treasured and held dear.

@BenAGoodLife, a furry who is the founder of @Bulletoons, which provides faith-based cartoons for church bulletins, told us “I can’t with a good conscience support the film,” based on their depcition of sin in a positive light.

Lastly @Bronymon_raised all the same issues we did, along with Kugers frequent use of crass humor. He offered that while “The art direction captivated my attention and the telling of the narrative through Judas’s perspective was unique….I was quickly disappointed upon taking a closer look at the project.”

There are …blatant depictions of a homosexual relationship between Jesus Christ and Judas. Whether these be merely jokes or teasers for actual content of the narrative, this blasphemous disrespect for Jesus Christ should automatically alarm every Christian to be wary of this project.
