John MacArthur Announces Return: ‘I feel great. I’m ready to come roaring back into the public’

A month after sharing a video message with Shepherds Conference attendees expressing his great sadness and disappointment at not being able to attend the event, reflecting that he was on his “last lap,” pastor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church has revealed that he’s back in the recording studio this week and that he feels ‘great.’

MacArthur, 85, has been away from the pulpit for the better part of a year, battling a series of health issues, setbacks, and complications stemming from multiple heart surgeries he had in the back half of 2024.

Grace To You director Phil Johnson shared on X that MacArthur was back to recording messages that would begin airing in early June and that while his voice is “noticeably weak, his thoughts are as cogent as ever.”

A similar message was posted to John MacArthur’s X account, where he revealed:

I feel fine. I’m not ill at all. My heart is working well. My lungs are working well. Yeah, so there’s nothing terminal that I’m experiencing. There’s no heart failure. In fact, my heart is probably stronger now than it’s been in the last decade of my life. I’m under good care from the doctors. The issue for me was when they were trying to regulate everything, because I had a lung surgery and three heart procedures. They put me in the hospital and I had to be there seven weeks. So all I can say at this point is I feel great. I’m ready to come roaring back into the public and pick up my ministry again.

An answer to prayer for sure.

  1. At least Phil Johnson didn’t say that John MacArthur was “sharp as a tack.”
I think that phrase has come into disfavor recently.

      3. John: Knock knock.

        Bob: Who’s there?

        John: A Calvinist heretic.

        Bob: Oh, hey Macarthur.

there, 2 jokes for the price of 1.

    1. Let me guess, Canadians angry about the tariffs on maple syrup cancelled the phrase “sharp as a tack” because it was made in the USA.

    1. How bout we set up a debate between you and any authentically saved and regenerated Bible believing Christian ?

  2. It is not uncommon for people with a terminal illness to experience a temporary comeback moment (usually related to some kind of drug which produces a temporary “I feel better”) before the inevitable happens.

  3. I am sorry, I forgot I was talking with some calvinators. I should have been more simple. The article was about John going from the last lap of life to roaring back in the public arena after his doctors adjusted something or other. No cure for stupid.

    1. Name calling, condescension and pride you have towards other Christians.
“Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.” – 1 John 2:9-11
