Woman Who Punched Pro-Life Activist In The Face Gets GoFundMe Taken Down, Loses Job
The woman who launched a GoFundMe to help with her legal defense after she punched a pro-life journalist in the face has had her campaign taken down, according to an update from her Facebook page where she also accused the victim of organizing a mass campaign against her.
Two weeks ago, Savannah Craven, an anti-abortion activist who works with Students for Life and Live Action, was interviewing passersby when one woman who didn’t appreciate her questions, now identified as Brianna Rivers, punched her in the face and sent her to the hospital. (Assault at 6:46 mark)
Rivers was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree assault. According to law firm Stephen Bilkis & Associates:
Assault in the second degree is a class D felony. The maximum possible sentence is 7 years in prison. Because assault in the second degree is also classified as a violent felony, the judge is required to impose a minimum sentence of 2 years in prison. For an assault in the second degree conviction in addition to being sentenced to at least 2 years in prison you may also be required to pay a fine of up to $5,000.
Rivers, who claimed she was “rage-baited” into the attack, denied responsibility and quickly launched a GoFundMe to help pay for her lawyers, raising almost $8700 towards her $25000 goal. However, GoFundMe suspended the campaign before it could finish, as it violated their terms of service of using the money to hire legal defense for violent crimes.
Rivers will not be able to keep the funds she has raised so far; instead, they will be refunded to givers. She has since pivoted to GiveSendGo, where the campaign has raised $592 at the time of publication.
In a post on Facebook, Rivers says she lost her job as a result of the assault, yet remains defiant as ever.
