Rick Warren Deletes Viral ‘Jesus Was A Centrist’ Tweet, Posts Apology

Former Saddleback Church founder Rick Warren has apologized for a controversial tweet that went viral last week, saying that he “wrote poorly” about the since-deleted missive.
Last week, Warren found himself in hot water for sharing the following message, quoting scripture while offering:
“John 19:18 “They crucified Jesus with two others on each side & Jesus in the middle.” The guys on both sides were thieves. If you’re looking for the #realJesus, not a caricature disfigured by partisan motivations, you’ll find him in the middle, not on either side.“

The post, seen over 3.5 million times, drew widespread scorn for its questionable exegesis and application, prompting Warren to delete it.

Yesterday, Warren offered a ‘mea culpa of sorts,‘ writing, “I apologize. I wrote poorly. I don’t believe Jesus was a centrist. He stands far above it all. “My kingdom is not of this world…” Jn.18:36 Jesus demands our total allegiance as the center of our lives.”

While many thanked him for doing the right thing, other were not as satisfied.

Saddleback has been the subject of a few controversies over the last few years after it was uncovered that they have several gay-affirming church leaders on staff who run a gay-affirming ministry for parents of LGBTQ+ children (the same as Andy Stanley’s North Point Church) and for having a “Blacks Only worship service” where no white members were allowed in, so the “black fold” could have a “safe space” to “heal.” They also came under fire after they blasted white Christians for having ‘no discernment’ and accusing them of not caring about black people. He recently claimed that ‘Your #1 purpose in life is to ‘let God love you.” and during Covid times where he described not wearing masks as “unloving”

Repent of greed and deception before you perish in your sins.
Rick Warren is an Apostate, I would hate to be him standing in front of The Most High God at the Great White Throne Judgement.
Back in the day, I attended a “Purpose Driven Church” seminar at Saddleback. It was essentially how to business-ify your church. Rick Warren was wrong decades ago and he’s still wrong today. Rick Warren’s train has definitely left the station.
Warren did not “write poorly” he admits to working for “gay organizations” all while claiming Obama was born again, holding hands with Elton John etc etc. If anything Warren is on the left and is only pretending to be a centrist so naturally he shapes and molds a god after his own image. Its what idolaters do! smh
So many popular church leaders write/speak with weasel words and wording, which gives them some level of plausible deniability, but only with the undiscerning. Both of RW’s tweets are prime examples.
Tim Keller was a master at this doublespeak, and RW likely gleaned a lot from how TK spoke and wrote. As a result, they have both completely duped many Christians into believing TK and RW are biblical and/or conservative in their doctrine and politics.
Whenever you see a comment beginning with “Jesus was…”, just turn away.
Credit to my grandmother who made her grandchildren memorize Hebrews 13:8: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Rick Warren is a dangerous man. He has credibility with many and he doesn’t deserve it. He is like so many ear ticklers speaking from the pulpit, worldly and a friend of darkness. He needs to repent and examine himself to see if he is truly born again.
Let us know when Rick Warren ever says or writes something that aligns with God’s inspired word, let alone provides a biblical exposition of that word. He is in the same pile of celebrity preachers as John Piper, Joel Osteen, Doug Wilson, Mark Driscoll, Tim Keller, along with many others, that true followers of Christ learn to ignore.
Hey Rick, that Daniel Diet Plan did not work out so well.
