Woke Rebrand? Church of England Is Avoiding the Term ‘Church’ For New Church Plants, Study Finds

For decades the deplorable Anglican denomination has been drifting on issues of theology and human sexuality, suicidally adopting the worst excesses of the woke movement, LGBTQ ideology, and “hello fellow kids” gimmicks in a pathetic and desperate attempt at relevancy.

Over the last 30 years, their trajectory has been a sustained and shameless repudiation of the scriptures and the Lord himself, salting the earth under their feet while praying for seeds to grow. Rather than repudiate their progressive proclivities, they have leaned into them, aping the strategies of American mainline denominations who have likewise been seeing catastrophic losses that have dragged hundreds of thousands into hell.

Case in point: a new independent study conducted by the Centre for Church Planting Theology and Research. Titled “New Things: A theological investigation into the work of starting new churches across 11 Dioceses in the Church of England,” it examines the language used by 11 Church of England dioceses to describe their new churches, seeking to see how the descriptors have shifted over the last decade.

Conducted between Nov 2022 and June 2023, they discovered that none of the 900 new churches planted over the last decade by these 11 dioceses used the word “church” or “church plant” to describe their new endeavors in their primary descriptors, suggesting the messaging and talking points have received loud and clear.

Instead, they found, according to the executive summary, that there has been an emergence of new ecclesial language across the church of England; what we could call an espoused ecclesiology. That this has happened very quickly.”

This espoused ecclesiology is affecting an operant theology within the Church of England, that is, that the new language is shaping dioceses mission and ministry.”

“Each diocese is using a ‘main descriptor’ for their new things, and there was diversity across the 11 as to the terms used. Not one diocese used the term ‘church’ in their main descriptor.

‘Church plant’ is not used by any of the 11 dioceses.”

Instead, they’ve been describing their pet projects as “New things” or “Faith expressions” or “Worship communities”.

Unless the Church of England undergoes a mass overhaul of theology and leadership from every corner of the denomination, it will survive. This includes an apparent concerted effort to distance itself from the very thing it’s trying to be.
