Did This ‘Prophet’ Really Prophesy the Downfall of Robert Morris and Gateway Church? You Decide
Charisma News continues to be a source of promoting whatever spiritual waste they can scrape from the sewers. Led by Stephen Strang, the prominent Charismatic news media organization mixes occasionally decent journalism with heterodox bible teaching; plugging and platforming every wild-eyed charismatic loon and heretic that says they have a word from the Lord. Notably, their senior editor for seven years was Jennifer LeClaire, made famous for inventing the “sneaky squid spirit.”
In the recent article, Was This Prophetic Warning About Gateway Church Fulfilled? Abby Trivett speculates the concludes that the downfall of Robert Morris (who admitted to sexually abusing a child) and the scandal at Gateway Church was prophesied by Troy Black over a year ago, giving legitimacy to his claims and writing in her piece:
“Was a prophecy about Gateway Church fulfilled?….In a special prophetic message from last year, Troy Black shared a word from the Lord about Gateway Church and Gateway Worship…Black says this warning about the enemy’s focus on Gateway means that it is imperative for the body of Christ to cover this church in prayer…Black’s prophecy also included direction for Gateway’s leadership to surrender to the Spirit of the Lord and sanctify themselves. God also still has a heart and a desire to use Gateway to spread the gospel around the globe.”
Black is a “Christian YouTuber, author, and prophetic voice” who routinely claims to hear from God and give prophetic messages to the world. His channel looks like this:
Despite admitting to routinely getting prophecies wrong and that God speaks to him frequently in “vivid mental pictures” (see endnotes), which are not prophecies at all, Black shared this vague message about Gateway Church, all the while praising Morris. Gateway has frequently been embroiled in controversy on account of their pastor’s outspoken and public statements on politics, yet we should note that this prophecy has no specificity of any kind and could be said about any church in the world.
“I began to hear this word from the Lord. He said: ‘Gateway Church is under spiritual assault at the moment.’ He said the enemy is moving his forces around because he hates what is happening at Gateway and its sister churches, its church family. Don’t let it in. Tell fear it must go.’ And He said, ‘Unite to pray and cover Gateway Worship. The mixture of worship and the Word is infiltrating homes and setting people free and the devil is mad,’”
What a lame “prophecy,” and shame on Charisma for thinking this is relevant to anything.
h/t iThink Biblically. Here is a compilation of Black admitting he’s a terrible, unbiblical, and unqualified prophet.

Absolute idiocy. This serial false prophet, like others, regularly spews broad warnings about everything, BUT NEVER ANYTHING SPECIFIC.
In contrast, Biblical prophets gave SPECIFIC prophecies.
BTW, Troy Black has publically admitted to giving false/failed prophecies in the past. By the Biblical definition, he’s a false prophet and should be shunned.
A friend of mine once entered a training program to become a stock broker. He was given a sales technique that subsequently led him to choose a different career. The technique would work well for would-be “prophets.” Here is what my friend was told to do:
Make a list of 400 people that you know. Include everyone you can think of.
Pick a stock, any stock. Send out a letter to 200 of these people telling them that the stock will go up
Send a letter to the remaining 200 telling them that the stock is going to go down.
After a week, 200 of these people heard the right prediction. Write a letter to 100 of them predicting another stock will go up. Send the opposite letter to the other 100.
Repeat this one more time for another stock.
Now you have 50 people that have seen you accurately predict three stocks. They are the first one’s to call with a sales pitch
