It’s Official: Mormon Church Announces Support for Same-Sex Marriage Bill

In 2008, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints led the way in supporting Proposition 8 in California, which declared that the only valid marriages were between men and women and that homosexuals should not be able to receive marriage licenses.

Fourteen years later, on Tuesday, the Megacult came out supporting the Respect for Marriage Act, an ironically named proposed law that would protect and entrench same-sex marriages. The House passed the bill with the help of Republicans and now heads off to the senate. The Church explains in a statement:

The doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints related to marriage between a man and a woman is well-known and will remain unchanged.

We are grateful for the continuing efforts of those who work to ensure the Respect for Marriage Act includes appropriate religious freedom protections while respecting the law and preserving the rights of our LGBTQ brothers and sisters.

We believe this approach is the way forward. As we work together to preserve the principles and practices of religious freedom together with the rights of LGBTQ individuals, much can be accomplished to heal relationships and foster greater understanding.

According to the Hill:

The bill would require the federal government to recognize a marriage if it was valid in the state where it was performed and guarantee that valid marriages are given full faith and credit in other states.

The senators also indicated the new version of the bill would clarify religious freedom protections, including language confirming that nonprofit religious organizations would not be required to provide any services or facilities for a marriage.

It’s a lie, of course, as any religious freedom protections will be swiftly attacked and sought to be overturned. The LBGTQ lobby is not content to simply be able to ‘marry’ each other, but rather with inexorably demand and insist that all religious groups celebrate their perversions under threat of social ostracization, termination of livelihood, and soon much, much worse.

  1. The government turned abominable sin into a protected class, and is now trying to force everyone to respect that abominable sin. The baseless bill’s name and very existence is an insult to religious liberty. Nobody has a moral, ethical, or logical obligation to respect sin. And the government does not have the legal authority to force anyone to respect it, at any time, in any place, in any capacity, public or private, secular or not, individual or group. There is no circumstance, case, or situation where sin should be respected, much less where anyone should be forced to do so by law.

The Bill of Rights outlines individual rights. Not group rights. The individual has freedom of religion. To say a certain group, organization, or institution has religious liberty, but individuals in our daily lives do not, is irrational and unconstitutional. If the government doesn’t have the authority to force an institution or group to respect sin (and it does not), then it does not have the authority to force the individual to do so either.

God’s commands are to the individual. There are none that would only apply to an organization, or to certain places or times, but not to individuals in our daily lives. When He says to disrespect sin, to turn away from it and from those who are given to it, He means all day, every day, everywhere, in every circumstance and situation. No exceptions. No excuses.

The foolish notion that there is some sort of workable compromise going forward is the fruit of reprobate minds. There is no workable compromise. There cannot exist even the smallest measure of respect for that which God commands us as individuals, at all times, in all places, not to respect. The government says it’s not bad, and that it should be accepted and respected. God says it is abominably bad, and that it should be rejected and disrespected. In this case Government is attempting to impose the complete opposite of what God commands. There is no compromise in such a case. God wins. Period.

  3. This is just some more of what happens when peoples and nation reject the clear biblical teaching that a true and right civil magistracy can only be based upon God’s law. The church, especially, with all it’s nonsense and traitorous ways has only fueled this debacle. And I’m not talking about the ways of the apostate churches, but the so called, orthodox churches. The idea that somehow God is ok with “religious” freedom is a gross violation of the 1st and 2nd commandments…gross and vile idolatry. Sin never ever can be a civil right. The church is reaping what it has sown. Maybe severe persecution can weed out the false professors, and bring those true believers to their senses. Maybe we will actually believe and practice that Jesus is ACTUALLY the KING of kings, and the LORD of lords. Please LORD have mercy on a disloyal and wayward people. Schismatics as far as the eye can see.

  4. Oh, by the way, “religious freedom” is what the devil promised Adam and Eve just before they committed cosmic treason and plunged the human race into darkness. The devil loves “religious freedom” enforced by corrupt, God/Christ hating magistrates. Easier to sow chaos, confusion and more cosmic treason…wake up church.
