In Historic First, Rick Warren’s SBC Megachurch Ordains ‘Women Pastors’
The second-largest Southern Baptist Church in the world has proudly announced that they have chosen to ordain their first three women pastors, ending 40 years of having only men as elders and repudiating their former convictions that the office of pastor is off limits to women. This violation and gross face-saving to culture is a clear violation of the scripture, as well as the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 they claim to believe and follow.
This sin isn’t particularly shocking coming from the 25,000-member, 14-campus Saddleback Church, who for decades now has been peddling poison and spiritual strychnine in the form of The Purpose Driven Life. Eager to reach the new generation, they’ve traded that little demoniac for the equally repulsive and heretical Critical Race Theory.
How else can you explain five months ago when the church announced that there were having a “Blacks Only worship service” where no white members were allowed in, so the “black fold” could have a “safe space” to “heal?” Or a few months after that where Warren blasted white Christians for having no discernment and not caring about black people.
With Bible in hand, Warren publicly commended and praised three women to the pulpit last night, all which are already functioning as “ministers” or “pastors” in the church, making this more a formal change in title and not role.
Cynthia Petty is the Children’s Minister, Liz Puffer is a Minister of Pastoral Care, and Katie Edwards has been the Junior High Pastor for a long time.
For years women have been doing everything the men have been doing in the church, and so Warren believes that now is the time to formalize it.
At the same time, we wonder if anyone from the SBC Executive Committee is going to speak up about this and commence the process of kicking them out and finding them not in cooperation with the Convention? Only time will tell.

SBC churches have had female ministers for decades. Every SBC church I’ve ever attended had a female in some position of ministry.
Last days heretics and false prophets (teachers) are in abundance and leading many well-meaning people astray right into the pit of hell. Warren definitely IS one of these heretics. His gig is all about the MONEY…. money is his IDOL, of course.
Constantly preaching seeker-sensitive material inside the church is keeping Christians as spiritual infants drinking milk, not solid food. Jesus sent the mature out.

Children’s Minister. That’s been a woman in all the SBC churches I’ve ever known. But of course I don’t know them all. Nothing new.
Junior high minister, which I guess is something like middle school. Is there also a male junior high minister? I hope so. If I ran the church (I don’t, I know) all youth groups would have both a man and woman “pastor” or whatever you want to call them. Too many of these programs have a 28 year old single guy, recent seminary grad, as “youth pastor.” Adolescent females should not have a 20-something single guy as their “pastor.” That’s an invitation to big trouble. The mere presence of one adult female in the room will fix a lot of what goes on in youth groups. And she is equally capable of arranging pizza parties, lock ins, and driving the church van to the latest faith movie. Adolescent females sometimes have big problems. Their church resource person shouldn’t be a male approximately their own age. Same for adolescent males. They need a male resource.
And pastoral care. What’s that? I know one church where the person responsible for “pastoral care” has the job of regularly visiting hospitals and nursing homes, she goes weekly to visit every church member in any of the local hospitals or long term care facilities. Open that job up to men and see how many apply. But admittedly I don’t know if that’s what pastoral care at saddleback means.
It seems like Pastoral Care is closer to what the New Testament describes as a deacon, a type of servant. Phoebe was a deacon, Rom 16:1. But a big part of the problem is we don’t really know what exactly a diakonon did in the first century. From what I’ve read, we don’t actually know the precise role and tasks required of the episcopoi (sp?) or presbyteroi (sp?) either. They were defined as “bishops” and “priests” for centuries before someone decided they really meant “elder.” Are they the ones that “exhort?” Seems to me like this is a bigger question than what’s lamented in online posts. Anyway, none of these women are the primary Sunday morning teaching pastor, so I don’t see why the SBC would even get involved. I guess we’ll see if someone raises it at the convention. I’m open to correction if you know of an objective resource on these Greek terms.
The more I think on it, the more it seems to me that none of these roles are “biblical” in the sense of being described in the New Testament. They could all be considered as diakonoi, servants.
