Barna Study: Just 2% of Millennials hold a Biblical Worldview
In a recent study confirming the signs of the times, the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University, led by pollster George Barna, has revealed that only 2% of Millenials have a biblical world view.
A biblical worldview was defined as “believing that absolute moral truths exist; that such truth is defined by the Bible; and firm belief in six specific religious views. Those views were that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life; God is the all-powerful and all-knowing Creator of the universe and He stills rules it today; salvation is a gift from God and cannot be earned; Satan is real; a Christian has a responsibility to share their faith in Christ with other people, and the Bible is accurate in all of its teachings.”
While 2% is a dismally depressing number; one that is likely trending downward further, the results weren’t much better for Gen X’ers, (37 to 55 years of age) as the percentage of those who subscribe to a biblical worldview is only 5%. The group with the highest biblical worldview, Boomers and Elders over the age of 56, was still only 9%.
Further findings from the study revealed that:
“Millennials are less tolerant and respectful of others than previous generations. Millennials generally are seen as “tolerant.” Yet the AWVI 2020 findings show that Millennials—by their own admission—as far less tolerant than other generations. In addition, they are more likely to want to exact revenge when wronged, are less likely to keep a promise, and overall have less respect for others and for human life in general.”
Geroge Barna finds these results “profoundly disturbing ” noting:
“The significantly divergent worldview perspectives and applications of the four generations—especially how different the Millennials are from their predecessors—suggests a nation that is at war with itself to adopt new values, lifestyles, and a new identity. In other words, there is a war for worldview dominance. But, as the Scriptures remind us, a nation at war with itself cannot persist.”
We are in deed, as a nation, experiencing God’s wrath. More and more being turned over to their own depravity.
Not surprised.
This realization is sobering. We are headed towards a Godless Society. And need look no further than the days of Noah and Sodom and Gomorrah to understand our end. May God have mercy on the United States of America.
This doesn’t shock me at all. The way the USA (and, really, most of the Western World) is right now morally it just confirms it. This nation was doomed once they took prayer out of the classroom. As RC Sproul says, “Ideas have consequences.” The Ligonier survey results just recently released paint an ever more dire picture. It is just like Jesus said, “When the Son of Man returns will he find faith on the earth?” That’s a great question, my Lord?
Yet we insist that we are a Christian nation. Sorry, but what is the percentage required (as stated in the Bible) to be a Christian nation?
I belong to the 9% yet I wouldn’t say that that amount of people from my generation get their Bibles out more than twice a week if they go to church, and far less would actually study the Bible due to their love of His Word.
A few would read their Bible daily as some sort of ritualistic duty. A man I know who is in his seventies has been reading his Bible through every year since he was twenty, over fifty times, yet knows nothing of the Word, tripping up over the basic elements, and yet he is held up as an example.
The state of Christians is far worse than this survey reveals.
