France’s ‘Gender Equality Minister’ Demands Priest Be Prosecuted for Calling Homosexuality a ‘Weakness’

A government leader in France is calling for a Catholic priest to be prosecuted after he posted a video on his Instagram calling homosexual inclinations and desires a “weakness,” according to a report from the Christian Post.

In a video shared with his 60,000 followers, Matthieu Raffray, a priest of the Institute of the Good Shepherd, shared: “We all have weaknesses: those who are greedy, those who are angry, those who have homosexual tendencies.”

This extremely mild commentary earned the ire of Aurore Bergé, a politician serving as France’s Minister Delegate for Gender Equality and Fight Against Discrimination. She announced on X:

The DILCRAH is a government body under the supervision of the Prime Minister that is “responsible for designing, coordinating and leading State policy in the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and anti-LGBT hatred.” It’s primary mission is advise the Government and enable it to develop policies to “combat racism, anti-Semitism and anti-LGBT+ hatred.”

The DILCRAH responded to the tag and revealed they reported the priest and his “homophobic” remarks to public prosecutors.

In 2022, France banned conversion therapy by a vote of 142-0, making it illegal to attempt to change the gender identity or sexual orientation of LGBTQ folk, with penalties of up to three years of imprisonment.

It is unclear what further steps have been taken and what the governent plans to do with the accusations against him.

  1. The priest should be admonished for calling homosexuality ‘ a weakness.’ It’s more of a mental illness or perversion.
