Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Blasphemously Compares Donald Trump to Jesus Christ

On the day of former President Donald J. Trump’s arraignment in New York City for his alleged role in hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene decided it was a good idea to compare the embattled former president to our good God and Savior.

While it’s true that Trump is the victim of an unjust New York City judicial system intent on arresting him no matter how badly it damages their already nonexistent credibility, Representative Greene crossed the line between supporting a man targeted by leftists and blasphemously comparing him to the Son of God.

Greene was in New York City Tuesday morning and gave an interview with Right Side Broadcasting in which she said, “Trump is joining some of the most incredible people in history being arrested today. Nelson Mandela was arrested and served time in prison. Jesus – Jesus was arrested and murdered by the Roman government.”

Not even a bit. To quote Samuel Sey:

Many will likely brush aside Greene’s comments or complain about others pointing it out, but it speaks to a larger issue. Some politically active professing Christians have looked to Trump as their savior when they should understand that there is but one Savior – the Lord Jesus Christ.

One of the most egregious examples occurred at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) two years ago when a group brought a gold-plated statue of the former president to the event. It was eerily reminiscent of the incident with the golden calf described in Exodus 32. Some people even took photos of themselves bowing down in mock worship to the golden Trump. One could assume they were joking, but it still is not a position any Christian should put himself in, jokingly or not.

Trump did many good things during his presidency – the greatest among them being appointing conservative Supreme Court Justices who eventually overturned Roe v. Wade, which prayerfully will save untold numbers of infant lives. He was a much better president in terms of promoting morality and justice in government than either his predecessor or the demented puppet currently occupying the office. However, he was also a man with many, many, many faults.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. When that trust gets inverted, things get strange really quick, as seen in Pastor Excoriates Voters For Considering Choosing DeSantis Over Trump: “Shame on You! Trump is God’s Hand” and MAGA Pastor Says Trump is ‘Under Demonic Attack’ After Raid on Mar-a-Lago because Satan’ Fears Him the Most’

Greene’s comments are inexcusable and ought to rightly be repudiated, lest we get more nonsense like this which, for the record, is not even a little bit interesting.

  1. Donald Trump himself reposted something similar about being the savior of America a few months back (maybe more- I can’t stomach that big spending, trojan horse/controlled opposition RINO and don’t follow him). This isn’t persecution. This is the left attempting to emotionally manipulate the elderly and low info voter so that he wins the primary/bombs horribly in the general. I’m as right wing as they come, so I recognize that someone who spent more than Obamination in the same time period, promoted homosexually, was in favor of red flag laws, did nothing about DACA, enabled Fauci/genocide at warp speed, laughed while cities burned (he actually did that about Portland/ANTIFA/BLM- instead of defending citizens for fear of losing reelection), and blasphemed God in his own speech (“GD” during a rally) is not the savior of the republic. DT and the dems are both vile (and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve always been in it together until he went rogue with ivermectin, etc… to earn praise). It’s all political theater and idolatry. Meanwhile, 6 Christians were murdered (3 of them children) while people are ready to go to battle for a narcissistic, billionaire serial adulterer. MTG isn’t the only one blinded.

    1. I think that is what it might be too. If it was not just a show Trump would have had a gag order placed on him, and also been charged with threatening a prosecutor – which anyone else would have been — regardless of how bad a prosecutor – and should be, because of a minimum respect for the law and knowing it will eventually be overturned anyway, because it’s not everyone the judicial system. Talk about a bad example leading people into jail.

The covid shutdown was the single worst action of any president we have ever had, and harmed the entire western world. I agree with doing nothing about the riots to – or taking care of election fraud before it happened. The tech censorship we now know was going on through government and under Trump’s administration.

Trump is much worse than a serial adulterer most mention. He was hanging out with Epstein with his wife Melania, and considering Melenia’s porn with another woman, it turns my stomach looking at that epstein group picture. It’s not like they ever repented or it’s in the past – post 2020, they hosted a homosexual gathering at Mar-a-Lago for Melenia to recieve an award., while trump has endlessly trumpted that gay marriage is a good thing.

      1 Samual 15:23
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and Stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.

  2. That is not blasphemy, and you. J.W. Baker (and Samuel Sey), need to repent of slander. It is blasphemy to speak profanely, lightly, or abusively about God, or to ascribe God’s attributes to a creature. To simply make a comparison with what Christ went through is not blasphemy. If that is blasphemy like you charge, then the apostle Peter, from 1 Peter 2:20-21, is also guilty of blasphemy, because he made a comparison between all Christians who suffer unjustly, and Christ, who “also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps.” It is not blasphemy to observe that what so-and-so is experiencing is very similar to what Christ, during his earthly ministry, experienced.

Again, you stand in need of repentance. One of your own authors who publishes those posts on “Memes we like” is actually guilty of blasphemy, posting images involving profane and irreverent references to God. THAT is blasphemy.

    1. You do know that Peter was referring to Christians and their suffering being similar to their savior. And you do know that DT is a heathen religionist, right? Would comparing Hitler’s suffering in his last days to Christ’s suffering be ok? You might say that Trump is no Hitler…true enough, but only in degree not position. They are both under the condemnation of God.

    2. It’s sacrilegious. Blasphemy is too strong a word, it includes intention to insult and tear down. Profaning might have been the word – but it’s been redefined to include cussing – in the sense of treating Holy things with little respect like worldly objects, it is. A lot of words have overlapping meaning, but their use should be correct and clear.

I didn’t like hearing this when I heard it, but blasphemy wasn’t the word I thought of. The other day I must have been a bit tired, and word flow was coming slow – sacrilegious is what I wanted.
What I thought is, not this again, and how inappropriate for Easter too. I really don’t like Trump, and want a good leader who is Christian and follows the Lord.

This is hardly the first time with this movement, and there is worst examples I see people are mentioning. Some supporters even promoted a made up religion with Egyptian gods and occultism mixed in.

  3. I love Marjorie, but that was an idiotic comparison that is shocking to most conservatives.

    1. Likely better to leave comparisons to other purely political figures, but that is likely the connection she made. The Jewish opposition and the Jewish support of Jesus Christ during his time on earth was often very political in nature, as was the mob mentality when the people were whipped up into a frenzy to crucify Him.

As Christians, we are told to take up our cross and follow Jesus. While Trump doesn’t appear to be an actual born again Christian, he is definitely being persecuted for his attempts to uphold the various aspects of a biblical worldview and a biblical view of justice that the left is seeking to replace. He sees valve in preserving many of these things, and he is willing to personality pay a heavy price to preserve these things for the sake of others.

Like him or not, he is at least willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of others in some capacity. That is more than can be said for most political leaders, and is likely the reason for the comparison. I personally would not have used it, but the political parallels are there.

That said, Trump wears pride on his sleave, so-to-speak. That is his biggest fault, and would likely be the first thing to go for someone who begins to experience the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. God would definitely receive the glory if we see that change in Trump. Hopefully that happens. He has been used by God as an unregenerate that can intellectually see the valve in biblical truths. It would be very interesting to see how he could be used as someone who has had his heart visibly changed by God.

      1. I don’t think it is his biggest fault. I also don’t think Trump has been used by God, but by Satan.

Trump is the only person I ever have seen to be part of a false prophecy by an evil spirit – that correctly predicted part of the future, but in a lying satanic way. So I have compelling reason to believe the whole thing is an evil spirit.

I usually talk about things that are false, delusional, and absurd – lies of that sort. This however seems to be false miracles of another sort – satan passing himself off as God – or in the case of this article, a supporter comparing trump to the Son of God.

The only way I’d believe Trump is changed if he was truly saved. But if he was truly saved he’d step aside and let someone else better take charge of the country. He’d also take personal responsibility, and be aggrieved at some of the things he’s done or let happen. Instead he’s going to do his best to wreck the republican party and nation – and in fact it can be viewed that he has been doing so, on purpose, the whole time.

PHILIPPIANS 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem the other better than himself.

  4. blas·phe·my
    noun
the act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things; profane talk.
“he was detained on charges of blasphemy”

    YMMV

    1. Terrible. Mixes up words that are different meanings, and makes them all equivalent. There’s a reason some people instantly rejected blasphemy on here as a title, and would not have rejected sacrilegious – they aren’t the same meanings.

      1. An actual, and correctly sourced definition of blasphemy: “from Greek blasphēmia “a speaking ill, impious speech, slander,” from blasphēmein “to speak evil of.”” https://www.etymonline.com/word/blasphemy

2nd time in a week misusing the word blasphemy. It looks like bad understanding or teaching.

No one thinks Marjorie Taylor Greene intentionally talked evil of Jesus Christ. She instead demoted Jesus Christ to the world of men, probably without thinking about it through clearly, and ignoring the context – it’s easter time. It’s treating Holy things as common, and is probably sacrilegious. Not something I want to hear.

  5. It’s pretty obvious to me that all these words tend overlap at some point in meaning and are closely associated.

I have no idea what MJT’s intentions were, but this comparing DT to anything related to Christ is grossly ill advised. Even Christians should understand that Christ’s suffering was infinitely more in quality and degree greater than our suffering. Compared at some level, but not remotely equivalent. DT’s suffering should never be spoken of in the same context as the Savior’s suffering, ever…maybe we can agree on that…or maybe not.

    1. I check myself when I write things, to make sure I know what I am saying right too. As iron sharpens iron.

I saw etymolone gave a clear definition of sacrilegious too.
      https://www.etymonline.com/word/sacrilegious
      c. 1300, “the crime or sin of stealing what is consecrated to God,” from Old French sacrilege (12c.), from Latin sacrilegium “temple robbery, a stealing of sacred things,” from sacrilegus “temple-robber, stealer of sacred things,” noun use of adjective, from phrase sacrum legere “to steal sacred things,” from sacrum “sacred object” (from neuter singular of sacer “sacred;” see sacred) + legere “take, pick up” (from PIE root *leg- (1) “to collect, gather”).

So blasphemy is a direct hideous speaking against the Lord, while sacrilegious is taking away from God’s glory, stealing away, which I think I’ve heard preached before. While someone may not seem to be directly speaking against God, like artwork dipping holy things in urine, terriable blasphemy, you can treat God’s glory like it’s not and common, taking away the glory.

I’m not arguing that the some of the Trump movement hasn’t purposely been trying to steal away God’s glory and been sacrilegious. They clearly have and for a long time – witness my comments on some of them trying to promote a fake religion with egyptian gods and occultism. With some of them, it has been on purpose, and while not as direct as blasphemy, the intention was certainly as satanic. I think the time that has been tolerated is up.

I have no opinion on whether Marjorie Taylor Greene was trying to be sacrilegious or not, although she was. I don’t follow her at all. The way to find out her intention is to complain directly to her about it and see how she responds.

  6. Nelson Mandela should also not have been mentioned in the same breath as the Lord Jesus Christ. Mandela was a Communist terrorist who was arrested as he was about to begin a campaign of bombing schools and hospitals.

  7. To be accurate, the Supreme Court did not overturn Roe v. Wade last summer, but just said it was not an issue to be decided federally by the bench and sent it back to the states which was an appropriate first step to hopefully rescinding the law the Supreme Court back in 1973 had no business enacting since that’s not their role.

Regarding Trump’s three choices for the new justices, unfortunately, no matter how conservative they are, or are not, two of them are Roman Catholics, and the first one, Neil, Gorsuch, and Episcopalian, which is practically the same thing.

On top of that, the other justices, like Clarence Thomas and Sam Alito are also Roman Catholics with the rest Jews. In essence, there are no Protestants on the Supreme Court, and haven’t been for quite a few years, certainly not of the reformed variety. That’s a big problem as it’s no wonder the court has ruled so wickedly so often over the last decade or two.

Trump was raised a Presbyterian, but it sure doesn’t seem to do him much good as it appears he doesn’t see himself in need of a savior, which is an extra reason why he doesn’t need to be portrayed as one.
